Live music is back at the brewery this weekend, which feels like as good a reason as any to abandon your errands and call it “supporting the arts.”

Join us for three easy, family-friendly afternoons of music, good beer, and the kind of Cape Breton summer weekend that does not need much improving.

Friday June 19th at 3pm — Jordan Musycsyn
Saturday June 20th at 2pm — Brett Santacona
Sunday June 21st at 2pm — C.A & Sonny

All ages are welcome, dogs are very welcome, and the beer, burgers, and doughnuts will be doing what they do best: make your mouth happy!

If your dog could make weekend plans, this would definitely be it 🐾

Judy has inspected the deck, the food situation, and the general quality of the afternoon, and her professional opinion is that you should come to Big Spruce.

Dogs welcome inside & out, all ages, sunshine, good food, cold organic beer, and a view that continues to show off.

If you’re looking for an easy Cape Breton outing, this is a pretty good one!

This weekend at the brewery!
Music at 2pm, food is on, dogs are welcome inside & out, and yes, you should bring a sweater because this island enjoys suspense.

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁.

Every week, some of our brewery grain goes to local black-belly sheep farmers. The sheep do what sheep do: eat, wander around looking mildly suspicious, and grow wool 🐑

Now that wool has made its way back to us as nutrient-rich fertilizer pellets, and we’re spreading it through the brewery garden 🌱 where we’re growing heritage open-pollinated beans, rye, wheat, buckwheat, tomatoes, peas, calendula, and whatever else survives our optimism.

Beer grain feeds sheep.
Sheep grow wool.
Wool feeds soil.
Soil grows the garden.

Not a bad little loop for a pile of grain that used to be beer!

There are worse ways to spend a June weekend than under the blue sky, with a cold beer in hand, a legendary smashburger nearby, and live music drifting across the hills.

A gorgeous afternoon of fiddle, guitar, and trad-rooted musicianship — with Emily Dubois, a Métis fiddler and classically trained violinist, joining forces with Gammons & Knorr, the PEI-based duo bringing the kind of crisp, lively instrumental music that makes a sunny Friday feel like it was planned by someone with excellent taste.

Rolling into Cape Breton in their old VW van, Ali McCormick and Vicki Brittle bring warm, road-seasoned folk energy, sharp songwriting, and the kind of voices that make people stop mid-conversation and really listen. They bring that rare old-soul quality: grounded, generous, and quietly magnetic, a pair of singer-songwriters not to be missed!

Acadian award-winning songwriter with a rich, earthy sound, Kristen Martell closes the weekend with music made for listening closely ~ thoughtful, beautifully crafted, and right at home here among the spruce trees.

Bring the kids. Bring the dog. Bring the friend who keeps saying they “really need to get out more.” We’ll have the sunshine, the good people, the fresh beer, and the kind of joyful mood that staying for one song …turns into staying all afternoon.

There are weekends where you “might swing by,” and then there are weekends where Future You will be mildly annoyed if Present You stays home.

Live music all weekend at the brewery, cold beer in hand, dogs under tables, kids on the lawn, and that particular Cape Breton magic where a casual afternoon somehow becomes the whole point.

Friday 3pm — Eddie Cummings
Saturday 2pm — Dane Pedersen
Sunday 2pm — Rachel Davis & Darren McMullen

Free shows. All ages. Pups welcome!

Come early, claim your patch of grass, and make it look like you planned your life beautifully🍻

ISO: A Charming Human Who Can Talk Beer in New Brunswick

We’re looking for someone to help Big Spruce with weekly beer sampling at ANBL stores this fall and winter!

You should be friendly, reliable, comfortable chatting with strangers, and capable of making a small tasting table feel less like a folding table in a liquor store and more like a tiny, well-informed beer embassy 💅

The gig involves pouring samples, talking about our beers, answering basic questions, and generally representing Big Spruce with warmth, good humour, and zero weird sales pressure.

Ideal human:

🗺️Lives in New Brunswick or can easily travel to ANBL locations

🤓Has some beer knowledge, or is keen to learn

🎤Is comfortable working independently

🤘Is dependable enough that we don’t have to develop a nervous twitch

🚗Has a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle

🍻Is of legal age to work in/around alcohol retail

🙌This is casual/part-time work, likely weekly through fall and winter.

Interested? Send us a note about yourself, where you’re based, and why you’d be good at making beer sampling feel genuinely pleasant!

But a cold beer, a comfortable seat, and a bit of Cape Breton air can make a very strong case for themselves 🍻
