It’s story time!! 🤓

🌲 THE MISHTAPEU 🌲

Deep in the traditions of the Innu people is the story of the Mishtapeu — a powerful spirit connected to the unseen world.

To understand the Mishtapeu, you have to enter the forest.

In traditional Innu spiritual practice, a shaking tent could be used to communicate with the spirit world. A spiritual practitioner would enter the tent, and through ritual, drumming and song, the structure was said to begin shaking and moving.

Then, the Mishtapeu could appear.

The Mishtapeu was understood as a powerful intermediary between people and other spirits — including the spirits of animals. For hunting communities, this connection could be incredibly important. The Mishtapeu was believed to communicate with animal spirits and could reveal where caribou were located, helping hunters find the animals they depended upon.

But the Mishtapeu was more than a guide.

In Innu traditions, these beings could possess extraordinary abilities, including healing and foretelling events. Some were considered benevolent, while others could be dangerous.

The Mishtapeu was also associated with Tshishtashkamuku, a parallel spirit world resembling our own, but inhabited by enormous animals and supernatural beings.

One traditional story tells of a giant Mishtapeu pursuing a great beaver around Lake Pekuakami (Lake Saint-Jean), travelling through the waterways and learning the landscape along the way.

The Mishtapeu isn’t simply a monster hiding in the Canadian wilderness.

It represents something much older and deeper — a connection between people, animals, nature and the spirit world.

🐉 THE LEGEND OF MEMPHRÉ 🐉

Deep beneath the waters of Lake Memphremagog, between Quebec and Vermont, is said to live one of Canada’s most mysterious creatures: Memphré. For generations, people have reported seeing a long, serpent-like creature moving through the lake, sometimes described as having humps rising above the surface before disappearing beneath the waves. Sightings have inspired countless stories, sketches and theories—but no one has ever been able to prove exactly what lurks beneath the water. Monster, misidentified animal, or something far stranger? 👀

So many different serpent like folklore around Canada! Super cool 😎

It’s story time!! 🤓 😱

The Old Hag of Newfoundland

They say that if you wake in the night unable to move, feeling a crushing weight on your chest, you may have encountered the Old Hag.

A haunting piece of Newfoundland folklore tells of a supernatural figure who visits people in their sleep, sitting upon their chest and leaving them unable to speak or move. Some say they could see her standing at the foot of the bed. Others only felt her presence.

The experience is terrifyingly real—and Newfoundland’s old stories gave it a name.

The Old Hag.

Whether you believe it was a spirit, a witch, or something with a more earthly explanation, the legend has survived for generations.

So tonight, when the lights go out…

Whatever you do, don’t invite her in. 🖤

Story time! 🤓

Deep in the remote wilderness of British Columbia lies a place known as The Headless Valley.

In the early 1900s, two prospecting brothers ventured into the Nahanni Valley searching for gold.

They never returned.

When their remains were eventually discovered, both men had been decapitated.

Their deaths were never fully explained, and before long, stories began spreading of other prospectors mysteriously disappearing in the same remote wilderness.

Some said the mountains were protecting their gold.

Others believed something far more sinister was lurking in the valley.

The legend grew…

And the remote Nahanni wilderness earned its chilling nickname:

The Headless Valley.
