If you’ve spent any amount of time around here, there’s a good chance you know Karen and Denise.

They’re Dog House regulars, serious football fans, longtime friends, and they’ve just launched something of their own:

Two Old Ladies Talking Football, a brand-new YouTube channel built around NFL opinions, predictions, arguments, and absolutely no shortage of things to say. 😂

TUESDAY NIGHT HAS A PLAN. 🍕🎯

Darts start at 6 PM, which means there’s plenty of time to order a pizza, eat a slice between throws, and develop an entirely unjustified level of confidence in your game.

And while we’ve got football people’s attention…

Football starts next week, so if you’re planning to come for Tammy’s title, now would be an excellent time to actually get yourself entered!

ISLAND PROBLEMS MONDAY ⚡

Last week’s electricity plan:

Tuesday night, the power just went out.

No warning.
No schedule.
Just… darkness.

Then came the load-shedding notices.

Everyone charged everything.

Everyone rearranged their day.

Everyone prepared for no AC.

And then…

The power stayed on. 😂

Which was obviously a good thing!

Except now we’re apparently expected to plan for both having electricity and not having electricity at the same time.

Island life: where even the outage schedule is more of a suggestion.

And on a much brighter note…

THE DOG HOUSE WEEKEND BRUNCH MANIFESTO

We believe breakfast at 9 can be brunch.

We believe breakfast at 1:30 can also be brunch.

We believe coffee is a perfectly respectable first drink.

We believe mimosas are too.

We believe bacon improves most situations.

We believe a BLT absolutely counts as brunch if you order it during brunch.

We believe Belgian waffles with whipped cream can be breakfast, brunch, or dessert, depending entirely on your level of commitment.

And we believe if Saturday gets away from you completely, that’s what Sunday is for. 😂

FRIDAY HAS LOBSTER. 🦞

Tonight’s dinner special is Caribbean lobster with mashed potatoes and tossed greens.

And because apparently Friday needed a full itinerary:

🃏 Cribbage at 2 PM
🏈 NFL Survivor Pool is open for entries
🍳 Brunch is back Saturday AND Sunday, 9 AM–2 PM

And then there’s the electricity situation…

For the fourth day in a row, we’ve been given a possible load-shedding window. Today it’s 2–5 PM.

Will the power go out?
Will it stay on?
Will we all charge our phones to 100% and then pretend we’re not waiting for something to happen?

Nobody knows! 🤪

If anything changes that affects us, we’ll let you know.

Otherwise, come eat lobster (available from 5:00 until sold out)!

Every bar has rules. Some are written down. The important ones are not. 😂

At The Dog House, we’re pretty sure the unofficial rulebook includes:

🟦 Don’t sit in someone’s usual stool unless you’re prepared to defend your decision.

🟦 “One quick drink” has no legally recognized definition.

🟦 Advice offered from the bar is always free and rarely requested.

🟦 If somebody says they’re leaving after this one, nobody believes them.

🟦 What happens during darts, dominoes or cribbage may absolutely be brought up again next week.

Dominoes are on the bar at 5 PM.

Come play, come watch, or sit nearby and offer the kind of strategic advice nobody asked for.

There will be counting.
There will be accusations.
Someone will be absolutely certain they would have played that differently.

Basically, a normal Wednesday at The Dog House.

FOOTBALL SEASON IS ALMOST HERE. 🏈

Which means one very important thing:

The Dog House NFL Survivor Pool is coming back.

Last year was way too much fun not to do it again, and Tammy Myers Mundy has had plenty of time to enjoy the title of reigning champion. 😂

Here’s the quick version:

Pick one NFL team each week to win.

They win, you live another week.

They lose?

You do get one $50 buyback before Week 12, because sometimes bad picks deserve second chances.

Use it, lose again?

Now you’re dead. 😂

You can’t use the same team twice, ties keep you alive, and yes, multiple entries are allowed, up to three per person.

Entries open August 26.

We’ll post the full rules shortly.

ISLAND PROBLEMS MONDAY 🏝️

August on Ambergris Caye is not for the weak.

Keep the patio doors closed.
Keep the windows closed.
Keep the AC running.

Because outside is hot as balls, the humidity is relentless, and this year the salt air and sargassum seem particularly determined to destroy anything with a circuit board.

Going outside now requires a strategy.

Where are you going?
Is there shade?
Is there AC?
Most importantly, is there a breeze?

At The Dog House, we’ve got fans on every corner of the bar and that ocean breeze coming through, which means those corner seats have officially become prime real estate.

At this point, breeze and deodorant are our most valuable commodities. 😂
