The Forgotten South, Still Walking in the Dark.
As election season approaches councilors pls use this rainy season to identify where the drainage problems are. As you can see it doesn’t take too much “sky juice” inorder yo flood out griga. Both parties have had a chance to address this issue and each side blame the other, while the people still feel the bitter end of of stick. Dry season is almost over now griga, and what most take president in our Garifuna community is proper hygiene, and a transparent governance structure as it is a essential component of what our community needs.
If the entire country of belize don’t have a comprehensive solution for this problem, use your leverage and diplomacy wisely to resolve our problems by making reasonable efforts to speak with the US embassy and ask to have the CORE ARMY OF ENGINEERS to assist in fixing the problem permanently. The Sabal community is a stark reminder and example of what our drainage system should look like! I have no idea why that project wasn’t supported until Dangriga drainage problem was completed.
This is why I strongly recommend that in griga the indigenous Garifuna communities begin to follow the strides made by our indigenous Maya brothers and sisters and let’s get serious about establishing our international sovereignty as it relates to our LAND RIGHTS so that we can then move forward and begin the journey of fixing our own problems in each of the 6 indigenous sovereign Garifuna communities in the country of Belize.
Until we grab the bull by the horns and snap the neck of the beast, we as a nation, within a nation, will continue to be marginalized disrespected and ignored by both political parties in the country of belize, irrespective of either party position on how best to deal with those “Caribs” of the forgotten south! I must conclude, however in doing so, let’s be perfectly clear, that it’s the “forgotten south” Dangriga and Punta Gorda has the responsibility and the resources necessary to FEED the entire country of Belize - just as a side note !!! He who pays the puppet, calls the tune !
