Wow!
At my 12-week ultrasound we noticed something wasn’t quite right with Lucia. The grainy black and white image on the monitor revealed she had some concerning physical abnormalities and a potential heart condition. Seven months into my pregnancy, a specialist told me Lucia might not survive. I was devastated. Falling pregnant from an abusive relationship and then finding out my baby might not live, was like someone putting a dagger in my heart and turning it slowly. I was overcome with anger and anxiety. But thank God, my family has been a lifeline, continually pointing me back to my faith. When Lucia was born in 2011 she only had minor feeding issues, but within weeks, she was struggling to swallow and needed a tracheotomy. At nine months, she was diagnosed with Mucolipidosis ML-2, a rare, incurable and progressively worsening disease with a life expectancy between two and five years. Lucia is now 7 ½, and despite not being able to walk or speak, has defied the odds. I believe Hillsong Channel and Worship have played a crucial role in her ongoing healing. Lucia loves Hillsong worship. I will often ask Lucia, “Do you want mummy to read you a book or do you want to praise?” Every single time — even if she is in pain — Lucia will lift her hands, which is her way of communicating she wants to worship. When my family is around, she’ll tap the floor and raise her hands, inviting us to join her. It’s almost like she is the worship leader. My niece will sit on the floor and play her guitar and sing Hillsong worship over her, or we’ll turn on Hillsong Channel while Lucia lies on her mat with her little hands raised to heaven. Her favorite song is Good Grace. Luci has endured many dark moments in her life, but through it all, she has always looked to worship music as her source of hope, healing and comfort. Although my heart breaks seeing my daughter in pain and there are days when I can get disheartened, I get such a sense of peace and hope watching Lucia worship Jesus. No matter what the diagnosis, God is not finished with her yet! Thank you Hillsong Channel for being a blessing to our family. — Genny
