Our “Summer Show” will be again at Cafe Steenberg on Saturday, the 13th June, but sadly, it will be our last here as the cafe is closing. But please come along and give Patrick good memories for his closing show. With “Foreign Affairs” and “Little Bits” we have fantastic artists and can promise a great show. Put it in your diaries.

Our “Spring Show”, next Saturday, the 9th May, is again at Cafe Steenberg.

As the main act, we have the “Jolly Jamming Companions”, a Belgian band who describe themselves as “a cheerful bunch who love to play music – as long as it’s Blues, Rock, Funk or other Roots music. An hour or two of our music is guaranteed to put a smile on your face!” So we look forward to that. They will be supported by

Huck Folker, an experienced entertainer from Germany, accompanying himself on piano and mouth-organ, whilst presenting a programme from the 70s and 80s with numbers from artists such as Neil Young, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, Jackson Brown and more.

The Staging Post’s Summer Charity Show on Saturday, the 14th June, will be in support of the Medicine Sans Frontieres (MSF) Gaza appeal in the lovely garden of Peter and Lisa in Vossem. It will be “Glyndebourne-style”, that is to say, bring your own chairs, blankets, umbrellas, drinks and food etc. There will be a limited number of tents for sun or shower protection. The entertainment will start at 16:00 and finish by 19:00 thus allowing pre-show shopping and time to go for an evening meal.

We have five groups of artists;

HOT AIR - the very popular, vocal ensemble, led by Steven De Mesmaeker
THREE DARN HOT – the well-known, close-harmony trio of Lisa, Andrea and Helen, known for singing in the style of the Andrews Sisters, but now with a wider repertoire.
ROSE-MARIE CHRISTIE, a Staging Post founder member, singing old favourites.
KRISTINA BERTASIUTE, backed by the delightful guitar playing of Andy Upton, singing popular cover numbers and some Lithuanian songs.
FINE & DANDY – the duo of Josephine and Andy (Fisk), again singing popular numbers.

If you wish to come, please let us know by email before the 13th to assist the planning. If, the day before, the weather forecast is absolutely awful, it may be necessary to cancel the event. If that is the case, we will inform people by email. But it you decide only at the last minute, then just come anyway.

Wizz Jones, of the Beatnik generation, died recently. He influenced many artists with his superb guitar playing, including Olivier Buckley, who has appeared several times at the Staging Post. Wizz had links to the Brussels Folk Club. You may be interested in Olivier Buckley's tribute to him at the Lava Cafe, Rue Saint-Christophe 20, 1000 Brussels this Sunday, 11th May.

NEXT SHOW
Our next show on the 29th March, is entitled the “Solar-Eclipse Show” to commemorate the partial eclipse of the sun that will have occurred on that day. It is not to be confused with the total eclipse of the moon which will have occurred on the 14th March. The show will feature four groups each performing one set a-piece.

“Yvonne & Friends” – Yvonne Stausbol, who appeared in our very first show in 2016 and again in 2017, is joined by five friends to give what may be a farewell performance, as she will be leaving Belgium for Denmark shortly. They will perform the highly danceable numbers from her CD, “Out of the Whirlwind”.

“Little Bits” – this popular trio, a subset of ISBITS, appears again to entrance us with their magical performances of jazzy, folkish numbers.

“Three Darn Hot” – originally a very popular “Andrews Sisters” tribute group, appears again, this time with a different repertoire, equally-suited to their accomplished, close-harmony-style singing.

“HL7” (Hammurabi Lucky 7) – is a new group with some interesting mood-music. They rearrange modern tunes in their own way, “creating a dream-pop sound sprinkled with beep-boops and guitar arpeggios”. The group’s name is taken from an IT protocol. However, Hammurabi was a Babylonian king famous for codifying his laws.

Our next show, the “NEW YEAR BASH”, will be on Saturday the 18th January at 19:45.
We welcome back as the main act, “Jazz Things”, who last appeared in 2022 and from whom we can expect really, good dance-music.
They will be supported by the lovely voice of Constanze Schwarzer singing ballads of a variety of styles, whilst playing her accordion, and,
the raw and soulful vibes of Niccolo and Ivica bringing a unique touch to rock classic and other favourites, in their new, acoustic duo, “Grain and Harmony”. Put it in your diaries and we hope to see you there. Don’t forget to reserve before the 17th!.

LAST SHOW
Well the “Close-to Christmas” Show was an unqualified success. All places had been reserved. A few people who arrived without reservations, were asked to wait in the bar until the show had started. We managed then to fit them in.

The show opened with the 18 member group, “Hot Air”, giving an outstanding rendition of excerpts from “Le Miserables” and “The Phantom of the Opera”. This was followed by a superb, new duo, “The Ladybirds”, consisting of Lisa and Josephine singing “Beatles” numbers to recorded backing tracks. All were entranced!

“Foreign Affairs” then played the last two sets and got an exceptional number of people up dancing. They were joined by guest saxophonist, Dave Skinner, and the style changed from really good rock to the great, atmospheric dance-band style we used to know when Dave played with them previously. Finally, after several encores, the main event ended, only for a jam-session to start up in the bar until late.
