TIME STOOD STILL. FIVE TIMES.
Written by Thomas Prudhomme
(Round two is coming. The chef? Still a secret. 👀)
Three nights. Five courses. And, strangely enough, nobody seemed to care much about the time.
For three nights, Damien Brunet took over our kitchen at Soko Rooftop. We gave him the keys, and he took us somewhere we hadn’t quite expected.
Scandinavia was there, in the simplicity of things. Asia made a few appearances, sometimes quietly, sometimes less so. And France, naturally, was never far away. Probably hiding in the butter.
What I liked about Damien’s cooking was that it didn’t try too hard. There was thought behind every plate, but none of that unnecessary fuss. Just good ingredients, interesting combinations and a chef who clearly knows what he’s doing.
Five courses, each with its own little story. Some made us curious. Others made us forget what we were talking about.
And that’s probably my favourite thing about a good dinner. That moment when the conversation stops, just for a second, because everyone’s busy tasting something.
Damien, thank you for bringing your ideas, your generosity and a bit of your world into our kitchen. It was a real pleasure having you around.
Three nights went by rather quickly. Funny how that works.
Now, about November…
We seem to have developed a taste for having other people cook in our kitchen.
So we’re doing it again 😱
Different chef. Different ideas. And a name we’re keeping to ourselves for a little longer.
(ROUND TWO. NEW CHEF. NO SPOILERS.)
See you at the table.
