Here’s a small selection of the glasses we’ve brought for our Marseille takeover just for your special eyes!

There’ll be a few early exclusive frames drops from Parasite Eyewear , some rare pre-Luxottica Oakleys and an array of unique pieces from all kinds of eras and style.

For our Brussels friends, don’t worry, we’ll be releasing pieces at rue Ravenstein throughout the month of September.

MARSEILLE! J-7 UNTIL THE RELEASE PARTY OF THE MOD.468 IN COLLABORATION WITH focus focus ® !

Join us next Thursday, September 3rd at 19.00, at 88 Boulevard Vauban, 13006 Marseille for the release party of the 468! We’ll be celebrating the good ol’ way; with food, drinks and live music.

It’ll also mark the beginning of our month-long stay in Marseille, surrounded by the work of designers Arnaud Eubelen and Melissa Mariller and photographer Mathilde Hiley - all co-curated by .

Food and drinks will be provided by our lovely temporary neighbours 🍽️ FiGuRe 🍷 , with flowers for the occasion by LILA NOIR .

Back in early July, we took a trip to Jura to see the birthplace of the mod.468 - ahead of its release, here are a few more details of the frame and the factory they were manufactured in.

To celebrate the first ever Bidules production frame - ‘monture fabriquée en séries’, we invited Mathilde Hiley to the factory in Oyonnax (FR) to document the manufacturing process through her lens.

Mathilde’s work felt particularly fitting for this series, her work in general doesn’t seek to document reality, but rather offer a sensitive interpretation of it. Objects appear as elusive presences, integrated into carefully composed environments where light, colours and materials all contribute to the creation of a narrative. Her documentation of the mod.468, in its manufacturing process and beyond, will be displayed in the ‘Bidules en transit’ space in Marseille for the entirety of our stay.

The mod.468, in collaboration with focus focus ® , is available as optical and sunnies, in 9 combinations of colours and sizes.

Ahead of the launch of the mod.468 with focus focus ® on September 3rd in Marseille, here’s some behind the scenes from the manufacturing process.

All parts of the 468 were sourced and matched with components from the 1970s. It was quite the process, from sorting fronts and selecting colours and sizes, to tracking down every missing component needed to complete the frame. Prototyped entirely by hand in Brussels by Mathias, the series was then manufactured in the Oyonnax region (FR), mainly by hand with some of the oldest machines still operating today. All components in their smallest details, except for the lenses, are deadstock.

FRONTS - The manufacturer of the fronts remains unattributed; made from 8mm (80/10) acetate slabs, we found unfinished and raw, left mid-manufacturing process. Only the first pass and some structural details were done. Based on material, colours and shapes we estimate them date back to the 1970s.

TEMPLES - We found matching deadstock raw temples for the col.052 (demi-blond) and col.053 (demi-amber). Other colours were made from deadstock acetate slabs and 4mm monel wirecore by Carrier (Bellignat, FR).

HINGES - The fronts were assembled with 53-6° hinges from Société V***e Henri Chevassus (Morez, FR), and the temples with 521 00 03 from Comotec (Morez, FR).

SCREWS - The final hero holding it all together: a 2.8x61 screw, from Morez (FR).

BIDULES (EN TRANSIT) IN MARSEILLE

For the first time, Bidules is temporarily inhabiting Marseille - from September 4th to the 26th, in the context of the launch of the mod.468*, developed in collaboration with focus focus ® .

To mark the occasion, we invite you all to join us on September 3rd at 19.00, at 88 Boulevard Vauban, 13006 Marseille for an evening surrounded by glasses (the drinking kind and the seeing kind), live music, the work of designers Arnaud Eubelen and Melissa Mariller and photographer Mathilde Hiley - all co curated by .

Food and drinks will be provided by our lovely temporary neighbours Figure, surrounded by the flowers of LILA NOIR .

*The mod.468 is a newly finished frame built entirely from deadstock components sourced and matched from the 1970s, with a strong straight brow front, temples with original wire core and period hinges. Prototyped by hand in Brussels by Mathias, then manufactured in the Oyonnax (FR) region using some of the oldest machines still operating today. A frame that is at once new, and from the past.

Christian Roth mod.14039 in BK

Manufactured in Japan, from Japanese acetate in the early 2000s. This one is technically in the black colour-way, but has an extra touch of something-something with a gradient front and striped transparent details on the temples.

There’s only one of these - pass by quick, Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30 to 18.30 (Friday from 11.30) to try them on.

Musician and music producer Aloïs (1992, Reims) was, we suspect, a little hypnotised during his first eye test at Bidules a few months ago; “I was tripped out by the swirly black and white image and the haunting road leading to nowhere, or maybe there was a hot air balloon somewhere?”. We swear we’re not trying to hypnotise you to a road to nowhere, maybe just a road to glasses.

Aloïs recently published an EP ‘drumcore vol1’ which has some “weird deconstructed club tracks” - we can recommend giving it a listen, as we had really good time bopping our heads around to it. He’s generally quite absorbed by synths and the world around them, always trying out new and old techniques to make sound, exploring forever and ever; “which explains why I haven’t released a lot of music - I don’t know where and when to stop”.

Somehow he also left us with a piece of wisdom worth sharing: “If you’re an artist of any kind and you’re having a hard time finishing a song/painting/film/whatever: take the element that is the most important to you, and erase it. It’s a radical approach but it’ll allow you to see what’s around it and sometimes what we think is the most important is just something what tickles your ego. Pride and creativity don’t mingle well. Delete it and move on, I guarantee you’ll finish the piece after that.”

This process could carry to a glasses selection, taking away the frame you think is most important, and finding what shines next to that. We can’t guarantee this is what went through his head when he chose his frame, ending up with a Vito mod Saule (1970s, FR) - but it sure worked well.

A bird’s-eye view from a box of pantos we believe were made by Bourgeois (Morbier, Jura, FR) in the 1950s and 60s. Sitting in their original wooden box from the factory - holding approximately 240 fronts, raw and completely untouched for 60-70+ years.

These boxes, and what they held, inspired our FRONTs project which we started a couple of years back. You can read more about it on our website at bidules.be/latest

NEW FIDELA DOLCE VISTA!

Forget about the sweet life… it’s all about the sweet views!

The Dolce Vistas are just freshly unboxed and they’re already a favourite. A simple elegant oval shape with the hinges set back along the temples, giving the front a smooth, unbroken curve.

We’ll be on a short break from August 11th to the 15th. Pass by before your beach/terrace/mountain/home holiday or wherever you’re headed to get yours.
