Ook de Backpacker Bar sloot op 13 maart zijn deuren wegens COVID-19. Nu wordt stilaan duidelijk dat het voorgoed is.

Dear friends and customers,

When we closed the Backpacker Bar on the evening of march 13 we where hoping it was just going to be for a short time. Sadly we were wrong.
First, Covid 19 turned out to be much more serious and dangerous than we thought . The whole of Brussels tourism industry is up till today in a complete standstill since the oubreak of this pandemic. It’s a crazy time where crazy things happen. On may 19 the border of directors from the vzw Vlaamse Jeugdherbergen decided to terminate the contract with the management after 27 years, effective inmediately. The why and how will be for the judges to rule on it before we can comment any further.
As a result of this, the Backpacker Bar as you all know it stops existing. After 22 years of parties, concerts, new years, birtday cellebrations and so much more, it’s al over now. We have great memories, made lots of friends, saw couples begin their journeys, even had a few weddings. But we also lent an ear and a shoulder to broken hearts. Know that what we will miss the most is that it was all good times, the times you were there with us, sharing, cheering for your team, singing a song out loud, playing an instrument or relaxing after strolling the city, all but good times.
We cannot forget to thank all our bartenders, all of them who through the years stood there and enjoyed your stories and served you a cold beer with a smile.
We want to thank you for keep on coming back, for recommending us wit your friends, for your suggestions and compliments and the great memories that will last forever.
The Backpacker Bar, as it’s name implies, will always carry on the escence of a traveller’s heart, an international meeting point, a plan to continue traveling and exploring the world with old or newly met friends.
For that reason we decided to give all the signs and wall deco from The Backpacker Bar a new home, maybe it’ll be your home. So if you want a souvenir to put on your wall, don’t hesitate, we will be happy to hear from you.

Yes, we are closed, and we will miss you. But we understand it is for the greater good.
Keep safe and follow the health authorities guidelines. Hopefully we will see you back in the spring, we will keep the drinks cold!
