Happy Sunday, everyone. Forget speed dating for singles. And forget speed dating for married people and hear me out a sec: Speed dating, but for our BFF! That’s right, for our best friend forever. The Thelma to our Louise. Our soul sisters, unpaid psychologists, the ones who’ve always loved us; our ride-or-die. So, at each table, I organise a series of little “dates” each time the bell rings, you move on to another fun activity with your bestie. Think non-stop laughs, throwbacks, ex boyfriend analysis, OMGs, LOLs and a whole lot of friendship love. What do you think, ladies? It’s hard enough getting anyone to remember Little Cedar Store exists. She’s out there on Glenora Street all on her own. No foot traffic. No passing trade- not the smartest business decision I ever made. So imagine my delight last night when I’m at the bar, a customer is absolutely loving a drink we serve (Matso’s Pash Pine Crush) and he asks if I know where he can buy a carton. I’m literally seconds, SECONDS, away from telling him that they’re stocked at little cedar, when MY OWN SON pipes up with “Oh, you can get them at the bottle shop at The Manly Hotel.” I beg your pardon, Luke. I GAVE YOU LIFE. I held you. I fed you. I have worked hard to give you a good life. I’m out here trying to convince people to shop local, shop small and support independent businesses, and my own son without hesitation, right in front of me reps a Woolies owned pub! I don’t know what hurts more. The bloodline betrayal, or the fact that I’ve no choice but to cut him out of my will. Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’m at Little Cedar Store ‘til 6.30pm working on a new family loyalty program for you all. Free Pine Crush when you join- courtesy of Luke’s next pay cheque, of course.

Honoured to be in a room full of incredible women in hospitality, for the Queensland Hotels Association’s annual luncheon today. I took the Uggs off for such a fancy occasion, but there was no way I was taking the step counter off. Not after opening my heart and ‘sole’ to Tomas on Wynnum What last night. I offered to help him hit 20k steps AND find love at my speed-dating event, only for him to accuse me of stalking him at the gym for his autograph! Calm down, bro. I just did 20k in fckn’ high heels, with a mimosa in my hand. I literally walk the walk while you post job ads for someone to do your walk. But listen, Tomas. Wynnum is very invested in this saga, so purely for the good of the community, I am willing to offer to be your ‘sole’ mate again. So it’s your move now, Tom, but FFS, it’s really not that hard. You just put one foot in front of the other. 👟

There’s something a little special about being surrounded by the people you went to school with, the people who knew you before life shaped you into who you are today. For a moment, you’re transported back to a version of yourself that exists only in the memories you share. The very essence of our youth: the teenage angst, the big dreams, the insecurities, the innocence, the friendships and the heartbreaks. The time of our lives, although we could never have known it then. Back then, we were just trying to figure out who we were and where we fitted in, never knowing how differently our lives would unfold, who would stay in them, and who we’d only see again at our 40-year school reunion! But no matter how much time passes or how far life takes us, that shared piece of our story will always connect us. Because these are the people who knew us when we didn’t even know ourselves. They are woven into a chapter of our lives we can never return to, but will always carry with us. 💜
