At Hide Steak & Bar, it’s not all about steak…

What? Do I hear you say? 😂

Great cooking starts long before service, and for our apprentice chefs that means learning all aspects of the craft.

We’re incredibly lucky to have a young team who are enthusiastic, curious and genuinely want to learn. As a kitchen, we work together, share what we know and keep developing new skills...because none of us ever really stops learning.

This week, it was handmade pasta.

Mixing and working the dough, learning different traditional shapes, making pesto by hand in the mortar and pestle… and, judging by these photos, taking their pasta education very seriously. 😂

For me, this is such an important part of having apprentices in our kitchen. It’s not just about teaching them how we do things at Hide. It’s about giving them the foundations, skills and confidence they’ll carry with them throughout their careers.

And there’s something pretty special about watching a ball of dough turn into a bench full of handmade pasta.

A BALANCED LUNCH ⚖️🍷

This isn’t wellness balance... it’s flavour balance.

The kind of balance where every bite and every sip make each other even better.

Our charcoal-grilled chicken burger is layered with provolone, truffle mayo, tomato and crisp gem lettuce, served alongside our beef fat chips.

To bring it all together? Our pick is the Rustenberg Chenin Blanc. Bright, fresh and beautifully textured, its natural acidity cuts through the richness of the cheese, truffle mayo and chips while complementing the smoky char of the chicken.

A pairing made for long lunches.
