So time for a little bragging.. This vintage Japanese (MIJ) Azumi was purchased for $15 from the dump and has taken me over a year to complete. I have picked it up and put it down again more times than I can count but the result is well worth the toil.
Number 10 or 01 off the line, I can't tell, but it's marked in the neck pocket. Not many of these MIJ Washburn built guitars, from the Japanese Nayo Factory, were imported to Australia in the early 1970s so this one is quite rare.
Solid mahogany body with a 24 fret three-piece neck, two single-coil pickups all rebirthed to be original as possible, (except I changed the controls to be volume and tone instead of 2 volume k***s). Unfortunately, the patina was beyond relic when I got it and it was quite banged up so I had to put in the effort to strip and restore it. The only parts that had to be replaced were the switch, the rear control cover (replaced with clear polycarbonate) and the truss rod cover, (both missing when I got it), which I made by hand from bits I had hanging around.
Big shout out to the guys at Redland Bay Paint and Panel for the amazing colour matched candy burned cherry paint job and Walter Biz for the advice and road test! I couldn't be happier with the finished instrument.
Here are some before and after shots and some videos of Walter's road test. Hope you enjoy, I did!
