La Belle Rose Cabaret Evening Program
Reminiscent of Parisian cabaret of the 18th Century….where artists would gather share their art-form, philosophies, literature, laughter and love. Even the cuisine is modelled on the way the French dined in those periods. Furthermore it was a French magician Robert Houdin in 1851 who modernised magic by taking it off the streets and into cabaret and music hall venues. So leave your analytical mind behind and enjoy this cultural journey back in time and as the French say, joie de vivre (joy of living)

Alsace in Eastern France 1866

was born a girl named Louise Weber.

Her mother worked in a laundry.

As an Impoverished young girl she loved to dance.

She enjoyed dressing up in laundry customers’ expensive

clothing and pretending to be a glamorous star on a great stage.

At age 15, she began working with her mother in the laundry,

but behind her mother’s back began

sneaking off to the cabaret

dressed in a customer’s “borrowed” dress.

In her dance , she teased the audience by

swirling her raised dress to reveal a

heart embroidered on her panties and

would perform a high kick

while flipping off a man’s hat with her toe !

Then picking up a his glass and

quickly downing its contents

while dancing past their tables ,

she was affectionately nicknamed “La Goulue”

She became the

The toast of Paris

and the famous French Can Can dance was born
