3 new wines and 3 great examples of how to showcase terrior (tehr-wahr) - a wines sense of place and the combination of factors that makes a wine taste like the earth where its grown.
MULLINE VINTNERS
These guys have been a favourite of ours since day dot, are making some of the best wines in the Geelong region at the moment, with an amazing ability to highlight the unique characteristics of each of the vineyards. Come in and grab a bottle of each so you can compare for yourselves.
2025 Mulline 'Modewarre' Pinot Noir - Geelong, Vic
These grapes are grown in what was the old Brown Magpie vineyard, which Ben took over a few years ago. The vines are planted on sandy loam with layers of clay, estuary marl, and limestone.
It’s seen some whole bunch fermentation and spent time in French Oak. This wine is jumping out of the glass with energy and vigour. It's ethereal, pretty and lifted, with bright red fruits and lip-smacking acidity.
2025 Mulline 'Drysdale' Pinot Noir - Geelong, Vic
Planted in 1998, this Pinot Noir is made entirely from the MV6 clone, grown on grey sandy loam over yellow light clay.
This wine has been aged in 25% new French oak for eight months, and seen about 50% whole bunch fermentation. It’s earthy, almost rustic, with notes of fresh turned soil, mushrooms and compost. Reminders of old-world, Burgundian Pinot Noirs.
SHADOWFAX WINERY
Established in 1998, Shadowfax Wines is a small winery located in Werribee. They're known for their cool-climate wines, from the family-owned estate fruit from its own vineyards in Werribee and the Macedon Ranges.
2025 Shadowfax Chardonnay - Macedon, Vic
Chalky, mineral and slatey - it’s showing all the classic characteristics we love about cool-climate, high-altitude Chardonnay’s. The fruit for this wine comes off the Little Hampton vineyard in Macedon that sits 740 meters above sea level.
