We just couldn’t let this one pass without a little bit of fanfare!🥳
Our Nicholas has reached the grand old age of 21 🗝️ we would like to offer him some words of wisdom however, he is smarter than the average bear (or 🐯) Butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, however, Nicholas doesn’t mind a little friendly Repartee and is quite at home on the microphone 🎙️ with his witty observations! The resident “host with the most” and an enthusiastic Tigers Supporter he is loved by staff and members alike for his benevolence, his cheeky grin and “can do attitude.” Happy 21 laps around the sun, & just remember, 21 is over half way to 40!🎂 Cheers Nicky!

He’s a true ray of sunshine, our Clem ☀️

We always look forward to his visits, and his cheeky shenanigans! It turns out Clem and Gracie go way back, having shared many chats over the bar more years ago than we realised. A longtime regular from Petersham days, Clem fondly remembers being “young and good looking” while being served by a young spring chicken named Gracie!
Fast forward to today, and not much has changed 😘still plenty of laughs, great stories, and that signature sparkle in his eye ✨
We still think you’re a handsome fella, Clem! 🍻

During the war, animals were used by warring armies because of their unique ability to undertake tasks that were difficult or impossible for humans. Over challenging terrain, they carried messages and transported equipment, people and supplies. They also helped to find people and save lives. Unfortunately, many animals suffered and died as a result of the war. We honour and remember the brave animals that have served alongside our military personnel 💜 🌹

During World War 1, the wives, mothers, and daughters of Australian soldiers were concerned about the nutritional value of the food being supplies to their men at Gallipoli. They wanted to send the soldiers some food from home but were faced with the problem of transporting it long distances on ships that had little or no refrigeration facilities.
A group of women came up with a solution: a biscuit that used ingredients that were readily available and would remain edible for over 2 months. These biscuits were first called Soldiers Biscuits but due to their increasing popularity, soon became known as Anzac Biscuits.
As the war continued, many groups such as the CWA, church groups, schools and other Women’s organizations devoted a great deal of time to making ANZAC biscuits for the troops, which were packed in tins and sent abroad.

In keeping with our ANZAC Day theme, two of our Sub Branch members, Trevor and Ken, have been busy this week supporting our local community through a number of ANZAC Day services.
Trevor, Acting President of the Padstow RSL Club Sub Branch, served in the Royal Army in England for seven years from 1962, including time in both England and Germany. Since joining the Padstow RSL Sub Branch in 2007, he has generously dedicated his time to supporting veterans and their families, attending community events, fostering camaraderie, and hosting ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services at local nursing homes, retirement villages, and schools.
Ken, our Vice President, began his service with National Service in 1956. In a story he often shares with a smile, when he first attempted to join the Padstow RSL Club in 1963, he was told he wouldn’t live long enough! Now, 89 years later, Ken remains an integral and much-loved member of the Padstow RSL Sub Branch, working alongside Trevor and fellow members from both Padstow and Kingsgrove to actively serve and support the community.
We warmly invite you to join us this ANZAC Day at the Padstow War Memorial for the Dawn Service, commencing at 6am.
We Will Remember Them.

With ANZAC Day just around the corner, we’d like to shine a light on one of the wonderful community groups who continue to offer support, connection, and camaraderie to those who served through the National Service Scheme.

Formed in 1951, the Sydney South West National Servicemen’s Association Sub-Branch was once 85 members strong. Today, four of the remaining five members - Alan, Ray, Ron and Daphne (with Jan unable to attend, still meet regularly at Padstow RSL Club. Affectionately known as “The Nasho’s,” they gather on the third Tuesday of each month, keeping their bond and stories alive.

Their President, Alan Drinkwater, began his service at just 18 years old in 1951, as part of 21 Platoon D Division at “Old Holsworthy.” After three months of training in preparation to support troops during the Korean War, Alan recalls sleeping in a marquee alongside his fellow servicemen, six on each side of a rifle rack holding their weapons. He still vividly remembers the bitter cold of his first day being 6th August 1951.

This ANZAC Day, Alan and Ron will proudly take part in the Sydney ANZAC Day March and are looking forward to enjoying a well earned beer afterwards at their favourite spot somewhere along George Street. If you happen to see them, take a moment to say hello, share a story, or shout them a beer, they’d love a chat!

“The Nasho’s” warmly welcome past and present National Service members to join them on the third Tuesday of each month from 11am at Padstow RSL Club.
