Today, Friday June 5th is and this year’s theme is a global call for climate action. Progress has been made, evident by solar panels stretching over rooftops, moves to protect ‘green spaces’ and increasing awareness of environmental footprints, but more needs to be done.
At Tradies, we continue to strive for our goal of RE100 and made significant progress towards this in 2025. At Tradies Helensburgh, an additional 64kW of solar panels were added to the existing 176kW system on the club roof (image 1). Further strengthening our renewable energy capabilities, 96kW of battery storage was also installed alongside power factor correction to improve efficiency. At Tradies Gymea, the club roof has been transformed with 200kW of solar panels (image 2) and a more energy efficient chiller system (image 3). Later this year, Gymea will also be our first club to have on-site EV charging spaces through a partnership with NRMA (image 4).
Our solar stats for the past 12 months:
• Helensburgh – 66% of energy from solar
• Caringbah – 9% of energy from solar
• Gymea (since Oct 2025) – 12% of energy from solar
Collectively, 22% of Tradies energy consumption comes directly from our own solar installations, with 25% of the remainder from green energy. We expect this to increase once additional solar is added to the Gymea carpark roof.
Outside of our venues, we continue to promote sustainable action through our annual Tradies Sustainable Futures Grants. Established in 2014, the grants have provided $250,658 in assistance to 106 sustainability projects across Australia. The current grant round is open with a pool of $35,000 to assist projects focused on waste management, energy efficiency or nurturing local biodiversity. See images 5 & 6 for completed projects by Marton Public School and Corowa Public School from last year.
There’s always more work to do – but today, we pause to celebrate progress and recommit to protecting the planet for future generations.
