A mixed week in Tony's Taphouse. A few beers arrived, but sadly a reasonably expensive ($205) beer was infected - Dimensional (Iowa USA) 2026 BA S'meeres. I was aware that it had a high chance of being infected, as about 50% appear to have been. Luckily I could only source 1x!! This doesn't happen often, but it is one of the risks of secondary beer buying overseas. Such is life.

The Assassins that arrived will be bloody awesome though 😀

Tony's Taphouse hosted a New FY beer night on Friday 3 Jul. Photos attached - 63 beers hopefully enjoyed.

Congratulations to Rob and Richard on taking out the French Pressing (using Stockade Ancient Money 2023 as the base beer), after Thomas was penalised for voting for his own beer - thanks also to Thomas for self-reporting. 😀

Rob and Richard went for a coconut heavy approach, banking on the fact that most people enjoy it. Additionally they added cinnamon, licorice and maple syrup to the mix for complexity. Congratulations also to Brad and Caitlin, who managed to make their beer worse than the beer they started with - fine effort that!

We had a few folk along who are not craft beer veterans, so we each shared and scored a beer familiarisation paddle to start. Adjuncted stout was #1, non-adjuncted stout #2, and IIPA #3.

It was wonderful to share time and beers with friends on Saturday. We did a 2x 6x beer paddle blind tasting - one with Aussie BA Non-adjuncted stouts, and the other with Aussie adjuncted stouts. Overall, Deeds Once More Into The Fray b4 (2023) was the clear winner across both paddles, with 6x of the 10x scorers ranking it as the best beer - which is absolutely overwhelming when you consider no-one knew what the beers were.

Joshua Severn generously brought the full 6x beer Side Project Double Barrel Vanilla Stout set for everyone to share - these were also served on paddles. The 12 Candles was by some distance the fan favourite, but all were marvellous.

We had 2x first timers to Tony's Taphouse - Ale (.alessandrol and Benny Mack () - both of whom brought beers local to their homes in Northern Italy and Adelaide respectively.

We held a fun beer night at Tony's Taphouse on Fri night. It went late - I got to bed at 0530!

We did a simultaneous double paddle Belgian Dark Ale (Quadrupel) blind tasting, with the first 6x beer paddle having European Quads, and the second having USA Quads.

Westvleteren XII (2022) was the winner from the European paddle, and Incendiary's Dragon with Matches - Fig BA (2023) the USA paddle winner. The Incendiary was the overall winner, with Anchorage The Void (2024) and Firestone Walker Whistle Monkey (2022) coming second and third respectively. I love blind tastings, as they always remind me just how little I know about beer!!

Thanks to Delia for the delicious food, to Mike Jardine for hosting the blind tasting, to our friends for coming along, and to the brewers for making great beers.
