THE LINK REPORT
26 May 2026

Excitement is mounting in the valley tonight with the annual Suburb of Origin clash between the Woronora Bull Sharks and the Bangor Poodles looming large.

Dubbed “The Battle For The Barry Bogan Shield”, the traditional curtain-raiser to the official State of Origin, Wednesday night’s clash returns to Prince Edward Park to mark 46 years of unchecked suburban hostility, avoidable hospitalisations, and Facebook community page threats.

Bull Sharks coach Arthur “Box Head” Messenger said his side was physically and emotionally prepared for another bruising encounter.

“Tonight’s captains run was textbook Bull Sharks preparation. Couple laps of the oval, 600 pushups and ten swift kicks to the nuts followed by six schooners - exactly where we want to be heading into Origin.”

Messenger confirmed veteran enforcer Darren “Stitches” Poulos would return after serving a 9 month custodial sentence for biting the head off a Kookaburra in the beer garden of Woronora RSL Club as part of last year’s victory celebrations.

Meanwhile, Bangor coach Chumley Simeon-Jones said the Poodles had undergone their most intense preparation in years following another humiliating defeat in 2025, when they lost 125 - 2.

“The boys have really toughened up this year,” said Simeon-Jones from the Bangor Wellness Collective infrared recovery sauna. “We’ve replaced the post-training charcuterie boards with high-protein grazing platters and the boys completed a very confronting breath-work and mindfulness seminar on Saturday.”

The Poodles have not lifted the Barry Bogan Shield since 1994, but despite winning 30 straight contests, Bull Sharks officials remain wary of the annual grudge match.

“These games aren’t played on form,” explained Bull Sharks president Terry “The Unit” Cranshaw. “They’re played on hate.”

Local bookmakers have installed the Bull Sharks as favourites, with the only active betting market currently focused on first punch thrown and total number of teeth lost.

Coverage begins from 5PM on 7-SH*TE before crossing live to the actual State of Origin at 8PM for viewers wanting to downgrade to a less physical contest.

THE LINK REPORT
20 May 2026

Controversy in the valley this week with a proposal announced by Woronora Chamber of Commerce, Business and Tourist Board to introduce parking fees for Prince Edward Park and Woronora RSL Club, in line with Randwick Council’s plan to introduce fees at a number of it’s beaches.

Board Chairperson Gordon Gekko told a packed press conference that the proposal is totally warranted and forms part of the broader 2030 Woronora Revitalisation and Premium Access Strategy.

“Every weekend we’re seeing carloads of day-trippers crossing the bridge like it’s bloody Noosa”, said a fired up Gekko. “Woronora is one of the last untapped premium waterfront parking markets in the southern hemisphere.”

"Plus most days you can't find a park west of the Forbes Creek bridge due to the smashed avacado and caramel soy latte crowd", Gekko added.

Motorists will be charged ten dollars an hour for the privilege of leaving their car within a 200 metre radius of anything that could be described as “a point of interest”. This includes the boat ramp, the park, the RSL Club, the footbridge, and the Wonnie bottle shop.

Woronora RSL Club Media and Communications Manager Murray Link told the press conference that the club was working to create a validation scheme to minimise the impact on club patrons.

“We’re proposing a system where schooner purchases will offset parking fees,” Link explained. “At Randwick rates, you’d need to drink about seven beers an hour to break even. While that’s more than achievable for most of our members, we can’t officially encourage it.”

Local resident and longtime bar stool support Barney Gumble said the new fees would be an inconvenience and would force him to rethink his routine.

“I’m thinking I’ll have to start walking to the club now”, a despondent Gumble opined. “I haven’t walked 70 metres since high school, but when money is at stake…”

One resident confirmed that he has applied to have his front yard rezoned as a ‘boutique parking experience’ and is planning to offer a flat fee of $20 dollars for 4 hours, or $50 per day.

Whilst some residents have expressed concern that the new fees would discourage visitors to Woronora, others are welcoming the change.

“This is fantastic and long overdue”, said longtime resident Elsie Guzzlegutz. “Maybe now I’ll actually get a parking spot at the RSL Club when I go up for the prawn raffle on a Friday.”

Woronora Chamber of Commerce, Business and Tourist Board will be holding an information session at Woronora RSL Club tomorrow night as part of Thirsty Thursday celebrations. Those planning to attend are advised parking will remain free for the first 15 minutes with any purchase from the bistro.

THE LINK REPORT
13 May 2026

In a result shocking absolutely nobody in the Valley, Woronora has muscled its way into the Grand Final of Shirevision, the Sutherland Shire’s annual song contest best described as Eurovision if it were held inside an institute for the tone deaf.

Woronora’s representative, local singer songwriter and Tik Tok influencer, Zerelda Von Cletus secured her spot with the breakup anthem “Get Ya Tongue Outta My Mouth ’Cause I’m Kissing You Goodbye”.

The country-rock-punk -techno ballad has been described by judges as “what would happen if Kasey Chambers got trapped inside CentreLink during a power outage and decided to process her trauma through interpretive yodelling.”

Zerelda’s rise to the finals began during a chaotic karaoke session at the Woronora RSL Club — an event that started as a meat raffle and ended as a police operation after a tray of Fireball shots was misinterpreted as “free for all.”

“She came out in rhinestone Ugg boots and a sequinned flanno that looked like it had been designed by the colour co-ordinator at Darrell Lea,” said local DJ and rap artist Dill ‘i Is. “Then she hit this note during the key change and half the room remembered someone they shouldn’t message after midnight with ten schooners under their belt.”

Insiders have told The Link Report Von Cletus’ finals performance will rock the house. It apparently has interpretive dancers dressed as Sutherland Council parking rangers, a fog machine fuelled entirely by v**e fumes, and a dramatic finale where Zerelda emerges from a fibreglass replica of the Woronora Bridge while holding an oversized bottle of Coopers Pale Ale.

“I’m doin’ this for Woronora”, Von Cletus said while signing autographs at the RSL Club beer garden last night. “Everyone said I’d only make it in the big time if the river flooded again and I got flushed out. Well nobody’s laughing now".

Von Cletus main rivals would appear to be Helensburgh duo DadBroMumSis with their catchy pop song "All In The Family", and Bangor songster Phil Makrakkin’s dance anthem “I Like It Both Ways”.

The finals of the ShireVision Song contest will be held in the auditorium of the Woronora RSL Club this Friday night from 7.30pm and will be broadcast live on 7-Sh*te.
