The Show Goes On, Just Not As We Knew It. 🎭

To our dedicated Alex Theatre Community,

They say the theatre has a soul of its own, and the Alex has proven that tenfold. While we officially wound down operations in mid-2024, the building itself seemed to refuse to let go. Through DV Live, it remained a sanctuary for professional production and development, weathering a "never-ending storm" of resistance.

In December 2025, the pressure finally reached a tipping point, forcing us to halt our planned 2026 production work. Yet, even now, "unseen" signs of life remain—rehearsals echo within walls that refuse to go quiet, even as we face an inevitable conclusion without a miracle on the horizon.

But the Alex was always more than just a building. It was a seed.

While the walls may be changing, the heart of our mission is beating faster than ever through our team and community:

🌱 The Actors Lab: The new studio is actively growing and thriving right here in St Kilda.

🎥 TV Production: Our team continues their vital work from their St Kilda base.

🔬 Technical Research: We’ve expanded into scientific frontiers we once only dreamed of—proving that theatre, like the great sci-fi epics, can inspire real-world progress when imagination meets the right minds.

🌍 Sustainability & Finance: Our partners are now scoping global sustainable fund vehicles and have launched The Art of Markets to educate and highlight the direction of global investment.

❤️ The Palmieri Legacy: Following the loss of our beloved founder, Pasquale Palmieri, our Charity is currently working behind the scenes to refocus and move forward in his honour.

What’s Next?
We are beginning the transition from our main website to a holding site dedicated to honouring the history of the Performing Arts on Fitzroy Street and within St Kilda.

We may not see a clear pathway forward for the Alex Theatre as a venue right now, but like any great protagonist, we never truly give up hope. The power of performance has simply moved outside our walls.

We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of two Victoria Police members and the injury of a third. Our deepest condolences go out to their families, friends, and colleagues. We are thinking of the entire Victoria Police family today during this devastating time.

The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation - Board, staff and volunteers wish to express our deep sadness and shock at the tragic deaths of two Victoria Police members today in Porepunkah.
Such a tragic loss that will be felt deeply by us all.
Our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends and police colleagues for their loss. Our heart goes out to all the police and emergency service teams that attended the scene.
We also wish the third member who was shot and injured a full and speedy recovery.
