🎢 On this day, Johnny Logan was born in Frankston, Victoria, Australia.

Born SeΓ‘n Patrick Michael Sherrard in 1954 to Irish parents, Logan later became one of Ireland’s most internationally recognised performers. He is closely associated with the Eurovision Song Contest, winning twice as a singer with β€œWhat’s Another Year” (1980) and β€œHold Me Now” (1987), before winning again as a songwriter with Linda Martin’s β€œWhy Me?” in 1992.

His career became part of a wider story of the Irish diaspora - Irish identity carried abroad, while remaining strongly connected to home through music and performance.

Fun fact:
We had no idea that the Dara Knot was the Irish symbol for strength and courage or that it was connected to the word Doire, meaning "oak grove" and translates to "Derry" (our home town) until about 6 years after I had chosen it for our logo.

And just for good measure, the dado rail that runs around the wall was picked as the best of only 2 choices, with me thinking it was carved with vine leaves and grapes (being blind as a bat).
Turns out that it's actually oak leaves and acorns πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Couldn't write about it πŸŒ³πŸ‚β˜˜

🌳 The Dara Knot

The Dara Knot is commonly linked to the oak, a tree long valued in Ireland for its strength and durability. The name is usually connected to the Irish word doire, meaning oak grove, preserved in place names such as Derry (Doire).

The design itself is a continuous interlace, a style found in early Irish art. The specific term β€œDara Knot” is a more recent label, and its association with the oak is interpretive rather than drawn from early sources.

Even so, the meaning is straightforward. Strength that holds. Growth that takes time. Stability rooted below the surface.

A reminder that strength is rarely sudden. It is built, and it lasts.
