Supported by '505' and Live Music Australia - an Australian Government Initiative, this new weekly event will be a great way to stay in touch with cutting edge music being made by diverse groups of creatives in our scene that lovers of the 505 'Acoustic Ritual' series will appreciate.

Starting at 730pm

ACT 1 - Soft Attack is a modern chamber jazz ensemble led by double bassist Jacques Emery, featuring close collaborators Novak Manojlovic on piano and keyboards and Thomas Avgenicos on trumpet and effects.

ACT 2 - Chloe Kim has established herself as a compelling drummer in the Australian jazz and improvised music scene. Now displaying her vision as a composer, she is leading her new ensemble ‘Emanation’, featuring beloved creative souls Sandy Evans (saxophone), Zela Margossian (piano), Hilary Geddes (guitar) and Jonathan Zwartz (bass), for the second time.

ACT 3 - A rare performance from the partnership of legendary pianist Mike Nock and multi-disciplinary drummer Laurence Pike

Flying cities, ocean swimming and Martian Zen – Barry’s recent quartet music draws on the necessary distractions of Covid lockdown and the fruits of a new harmonic system unearthed from bebop.

“...dazzling in his harmonic adventurousness, melodic resourcefulness, switchback rhythmic ideas and non-bombastic sense of drama.” - Sydney Morning Herald

“…one of Australia’s most inventive and accomplished composer/improvisers.” – Loudmouth Magazine

Winner of the 2021 APRA Professional Development Award for Jazz, Steve Barry is a pianist, organist, composer, improviser and lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His work moves fluidly across the jazz, contemporary classical and improvised music worlds, reflecting a taste for modernist harmony and lyrical melody writing. Recent projects include the Hammond organ trio Green Thumbs, a chamber work for Sydney new music group Ensemble Offspring, an album with the AUS-JPN piano trio Polyglot, and a suite of compositions and free improvisations for solo piano, Hatch.

After thirty years of playing his original music with ensembles Clarion Fracture Zone, Wanderlust, Australian Art Orchestra, Alister Spence Trio, Sensaround, and Kira Kira, he has finally dived solo into his sound-world! The results are Whirlpool, a mesmerising and evocative double CD.

Pianist and composer Alister Spence has established a reputation as a pre-eminent creative force in jazz and improvised music in Australia. The Alister Spence Trio has enjoyed critical acclaim, being nominated twice for Best Australian Jazz Album at the ARIA Awards (2004/2007). Their 7th release, Not Everything but Enough was voted in ‘Top 10 Jazz Albums 2017’ in Music Magazine, Japan, and received ‘Honorary Mention, Best of 2017’ in the New York City Jazz Record.
