Well… we did it.
After 11 years, yesterday we officially handed over the Redesdale Hotel.
And what a rollercoaster it has been.
When we walked through the doors in September 2015, the pub had been closed for three years. We took a leap of faith, rolled up our sleeves and somehow this beautiful old bluestone pub became a huge part of our lives.
There have been incredible highs and some pretty spectacular lows. We've laughed, cried, celebrated, worried, worked ridiculously hard and met some truly wonderful people along the way.
We've shared weddings and wakes, birthdays and anniversaries, Christmases and Father's Days, long lunches, packed beer gardens, crazy nights and quiet ones around the fire.
But when we look back, what we'll remember most is the people.
To our staff, past and present, who became part of the Redesdale family. To our locals who backed us, our suppliers and friends, and the many thousands of people who chose to walk through our doors over the past 11 years — thank you.
It was never just a pub.
It was people, community, chaos, laughter, friendship — and for 11 years, it was our life.
We've been incredibly lucky to be the custodians of this beautiful old place and we're enormously proud of what we created here.
Yesterday we handed over the keys and wished the new owners every success as they begin their own chapter at the Redesdale Hotel.
Garth and I will still be around helping with the handover until Sunday 27 September, so we're not disappearing just yet.
And after that?
For the first time in a very long time, we're not entirely sure.
And maybe that's the exciting part.
Thank you for the memories, the friendship, the laughter, the support — and for being part of this extraordinary ride with us.
What a ride it has been. ❤️
