History
The Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Club was established in June 1965 at a meeting held at the Freemasons Hotel, Gympie. This meeting established a committee consisting of a chairman, secretary, treasurer and 14 committee members. Initial fundraising efforts included the raffle of a suckling pig, and a dance at the Veteran’s Hall. The Widgee Shire Council (now Gympie Regional Council) was a major instigator of the establishment of the Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Club. The club arranged its first bronze medallion course with the help from Noosa Surf Life Saving Club, and during the training the original clubhouse, the old school building at Tamaree, was transported to its existing site.
