👏 Congratulations to Railton Fire Brigade member Kiara McDonald who was awarded the 2026 Women and Firefighting Australasia (WAFA) Rising Leader Award recently.

The WAFA Awards recognize individuals and teams who are helping to create a more inclusive, equitable and representative fire and emergency services sector.

Kiara's award recognises four years of dedication within Tasmania Fire Service. She joined as part of the Railton Junior Cadet Program and has progressed from Junior to Cadet and most recently to Active Underage Firefighter, while continuing to take an active leadership role in mentoring younger members.

Known for her quiet and encouraging leadership style, Kiara consistently volunteers for brigade activities, training opportunities and community engagement events.

While continuing to train towards becoming an operational firefighter, Kiara remains actively involved in the Junior Cadet Program, helping younger members develop their skills and confidence. Her dedication, initiative, leadership and commitment to supporting others embody the qualities recognised by the WAFA Rising Leader Award, and Tasmania Fire Service.

🙌 Congratulations Kiara on this outstanding achievement- be proud of the positive example you continue to set for young people, Tasmania Fire Service, and the future of the fire and emergency services sector.
