CALABRIA is a region of breathtaking & extreme geography....a peninsula so narrow that at points you can view both the Mediterranean & Ionian Seas; a glittering, rugged coastline that winds around the toe of Italy yet 80% of it is covered in mountains some of which rise from the sea. It is a region of thriving coastal citron plantations, chestnut forests clinging to vertiginous peaks and long-haired goats roaming along the lower reaches...... where towers of glass jars gleaming in the midday sun wait on the edges of terracotta-coloured towns to be filled with pickled specialities by master preservers.....where folklore is a living tradition and as much an expression of its often colonised past (Brutti, Bourbon, Greek, Norman, Spanish, Lombard) as a Christian one with fervid religious processions, symbols of superstitions, legends & myths all taking part in daily life.
It is also the region of Italy that experienced one of the largest diaspora of its inhabitants due to economic conditions after WWII, many of whom migrated to Australia.
On THURSDAY OCTOBER 30, the LMN team will take you on a journey along the COSTA IONICA via a menu of rustic village specialities.
Accompanying wines from Calabrian indigenous grape varieties & artisanal Calabrian amari will be available to purchase on the night.

WHO IS JEFFERSON?
Legend has it he was a captain of a ship wrecked off the coast of Calabria in 1871 where he sought refuge & created this very Mediterranean amaro (as you do).

JEFFERSON AMARO IMPORTANTE pivots on a very Calabrian character & botanicals of bergamot, sweet oranges, oregano & rosemary all picked by hand from the distillery's own plantations....where the raw materials are distilled separately making each component the prize.

New to the AMARO LIST & ready to sip now.

This month LA MADONNA NERA presents GRANTURISMO NUMERO DODICI & looks to the medieval village affectionately known as both The City of Lovers & The Bordeaux of Italy. Situated in the Veneto halfway between Milano & Venezia & not far from the shores of Lago Di Garda, Verona is built around an ancient Roman stronghold with an iconic Roman amphitheatre, Gothic, Baroque & Renaissance architecture & winding alleyways .....and surrounded by rolling green hills, vineyards & renowned wine regions such as Soave & Valpolicella.

On THURSDAY AUGUST 28 Head Chef, Anthony Yuill, will take you on a culinary journey through this idyllic hamlet focussing on specialities particular to this
magical micro-region of the Veneto.
Accompanying wines from this significant wine region will be available to purchase by glass or bottle on the night.
