Table Refurbishment at Newcastle City Snooker Club

The time has finally arrived. After months of planning, fundraising, and plenty of patience from our members, Newcastle City Snooker Club has delivered the full refurbishment our tables deserve.
It’s out with the old cloths and in with brand-new Fancy PNS S147 cloths.
Work kicked off early Tuesday morning with the arrival of Moti and Dante from one of our major sponsors, The Snooker Shop, who made the trip up the M1 from Mount Kuring-gai to get stuck into the job.
A couple of club members were on hand to help with the delightful task of locating what felt like several thousand staples, clearing the way for the specialists to work their magic on the tables.
It was a long first day for the boys, finally wrapping up at 9:45pm. Wednesday saw another early start as they powered on to complete the project, once again finishing late into the evening.
A huge shout-out to The Snooker Shop, and especially Moti and Dante, for the outstanding job they have done. The tables look fantastic, and we couldn't be happier with the result.
A big thank you also goes to our members Alan G, Charlie P, Gary T, John D and Terry C, who gave up their time over the two days to lend a hand.
Thanks again, lads. Your help was greatly appreciated.

We're Nearly There!
This Saturday, 19th September, we have organized a Working Bee to clean up and add the finishing touches to the club improvements ahead of the Central Coast Challenge and the new competition season.
We'd love to see as many members as possible come along and help give the club that final polish.

Also on the horizon is our upcoming Bunnings BBQ, being held on Sunday, 4th October at the Kotara Bunnings.
As always, we'll be serving our famous gourmet sausages, proudly supplied by Greenacres Gourmet Meats at The Junction.
Be sure to stop by, grab a sausage, and say hello. We hope to see you there!

🙌 Ceiling Dream Team – Rob & Peter
A huge shout‑out to our members Rob Elsley for his fantastic repair work on our water‑damaged ceiling, and to Peter Snape, our in‑house master painter, for bringing it back to life with his remarkable finishing touch.

Your time, effort, and skills are hugely appreciated by the club and our members, as the photos show, the transformation is nothing short of brilliant.

What was once an unsightly headache (and a home for those dreaded emergency buckets) is now restored, fresh, and looking better than ever.

On behalf of everyone at the club: thank you, gentlemen. You’ve turned a long‑standing problem into a proud feature once again.

🏆 Newcastle City Snooker Club – Season Wrap
What a fantastic season it’s been!
A big crowd gathered at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club on Wednesday night (9th Sept) to watch the Tony Tamplin Grand Final: City 1s vs Hunter Valley Sports & Social Club.
With nerves and excitement in the air, the opening frames went down to the wire. The first two matches stretched to three frames each, with HVSS clinching the decider on the final black. City fought back to take the next, but HVSS sealed the night 3–1.
While the result didn’t quite go our way, we can hold our heads high. Both our City teams reached the finals, even facing each other in the knockouts, and City 1s battled their way through to the Grand Final. That’s a testament to the commitment, competitiveness, and camaraderie that defines our club.
👏 A huge thank you to everyone who played, supported, travelled, and cheered us on throughout the season.
And the journey continues… the John Lund Summer Competition kicks off soon! If you’d like to be part of the fun, whether you’re male or female, seasoned player or curious beginner, come along to our Newcastle City club. Who knows, you might be part of our next run to the Grand Final!

NDBSA Update – Elwyn Jones Billiards Grand Final
The Elwyn Jones Billiards Grand Final was contested last night, with the Kahibah King Pins proving far too strong for East Cessnock Bowling Club, taking the match 2–0.

A big congratulations to Kahibah on a commanding performance, and of course commiserations to the Cessnock boys, who fought hard right to the end.

Another great night of billiards for the district and a fitting finish to the competition.

🎱 City 1s Storm Nelson Bay – Preliminary Final Drama!
Newcastle City 1s went on the road last night making the long trek to Nelson Bay to play the preliminary final against the Minor Premiers (the Marlins) and what a night it was. A mixture of nerves and excitement filled the room before the start.
It all started with a great win by Muhammad 2-0, and Andrew winning his first frame very comfortably, but TJ had other ideas and came back to win the second frame. The other three matches soon got underway with Nelson Bay's Gian winning his first frame, then Ben roared back taking the second frame, Gian proved too strong in their final frame winning 2-1. On table 4 the "French assassin" John was quietly wielding his sword winning 2-0 while Andrew was still battling away in his third match, Darren won his match comfortably wearing down Scott to win 2-0, then Andrew potted a magical pink ball to seal his win on the night 2-1.
It was a night of grit, flair, and plenty of banter — exactly what finals snooker is all about. The City lads held their nerve under fire winning the night 4-1, every frame keeping the crowd perched on the edge of their seats.
Dare to dream, City faithful… the journey continues!

Today the Newcastle City over 50s "Old Boys" met for the very first time as two separate teams competing in the Neville Agland Shield competition. The Legends absolutely ambushed the Seniors team digging deep for a 9-4 win. The Seniors now know the Legends aren't just a "second team" they are genuine competition.

🎱 Tony Tamplin Shield – Finals Heat Up!

Last night (26th August) the Finals kicked off in style.

At Nelson Bay, the Major Semi Final saw the top‑ranked Marlins stunned by a ruthless East Cessnock BC 1s, who powered through with a clean 3–0 sweep to book their place in the Grand Final.

Meanwhile, down at Newcastle, the Minor Semi Final had spectators riding a rollercoaster. City 1s looked dead and buried after dropping the first two games, but the tide turned spectacularly. The next three City players stormed the tables, completely dominating their matches and flipping the night on its head. The comeback sealed City’s spot in next week’s Preliminary Final against the Marlins.

It was all played in good spirit, though a few faces left glum while others wore wide smiles — the perfect recipe for finals snooker.
