🏡 Store Spotlight: Penhalluriack’s Building Supplies
A Caulfield favourite with a place in Australian retail history!
Founded by Frank Penhalluriack around 50 years ago, Pen’s brings together a garden centre, hardware store, paint shop, and timber and builders’ yard across half a hectare. There’s plenty to explore, with experienced staff ready to help customers find what they need.
Frank’s commitment to his customers also took him beyond the shop floor. In the 1980s, he challenged weekend trading restrictions, facing fines and spending 19 days in custody. His determination, alongside other campaigning retailers, helped pave the way for the flexible shopping hours we enjoy today.
That customer focus remains at the heart of Pen’s, where choice, product knowledge and practical advice give locals a reason to keep coming back.
Now semi-retired, Frank still spends a few hours in the shop several times a week. Store manager Zhenya and the team keep things running, carrying forward the values and helpful service that make Pen’s special. 👏
