Our mission is to inspire a new age of rum connoisseurs using old-world techniques and the latest innovations in brewing and distilling. CREATE A WORLD WORTH INHERITING

We want to bring a fresh approach to the rum scene, whilst still honouring old traditions. We like to call it reimagining rum, but really what that means is we want to craft spirits to excite and inspire a new age of rum drinkers.

Our urban distillery brings a lifetime of history and tradition together with new techniques and fresh passion. Our philosophy is to create a world worth inheriting and through our approach to sustainability – we strive to live by this each and every step of the distilling process, or as we like to say – from crop to cup. Using traditional techniques, rectifying distillation columns, and the latest innovations we’ve perfected the craft to create our own award-winning spirits. Quality, integrity, innovation and creativity is at the heart of everything we do, and is expressed through every facet of our brand. We’re a small team of passionate distillers, makers and rum fans and we hope you’ll come on this journey with us as we reimagine the rum scene and craft spirits like no other. THE STORM BIRD

Our mark, the Eastern Koel, is our Storm Bird. It is said, throughout Queensland’s history, the storm bird is the guardian and protector of the local people. Legend has it, the Storm Bird flies ahead of the oncoming floodwaters, warning everyone in harms way. The original Milton Distillery was one of Australia’s largest rum producers for its time. It championed innovation, being one of the first distilleries to use a rectifying distillation column. Then came the flood of 1890 which destroyed the distillery. Fast forward a few years and we’ve brought new life and passion to the distillery, while still honouring its rich history. We like to think that the Storm Bird is now looking over us, guiding and protecting us on this journey.

🍹✨ Happy World Daiquiri Day! Celebrate with us by mixing up this classic cocktail that never goes out of style. Here’s our favorite recipe to enjoy:

- 45mL Spanish Silver
- 30mL fresh lime juice
- 15mL simple syrup

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a dried lime wheel from our friends .au and enjoy!

🥃🌍 Happy World Rum Day!! This is the still that started it all. A small 5L pot still from Portugal. Of course, our founder was distilling essential oils, but this is the genesis of the rebirth of Milton Rum and the distillation column at Albion. Cheers to our journey and the spirit that started it all!

📜✨ History time! Did you know the original Milton Rum and Castlemaine Perkins were related? While we’re fiercely independent now, our heritage dates back to 1871 with a shared history. William Samwell, our original founder, learned the art of distillation in the West Indies. Upon hearing about a new sugar cane township in Australia called Saint Lucia, he moved to Brisbane.

At that time, the Saint Lucia mill disposed of all molasses into the river. Leveraging his distillation expertise, Samwell pioneered new technology and embraced a sustainable approach. He imported one of Australia’s first rectifying column stills and began producing rum from the discarded molasses. The award-winning distillery operated until 1893, when a historic flood destroyed it. The brand was then acquired by Quinlan, Gray and Co., and later by Castlemaine Perkins (###X). Rum production continued until the end of the Vietnam War, after which it was discontinued.

📸✨ It’s always exciting and nostalgic going back to your roots! 🌿 It’ll be years away from release, but we’re selecting and cultivating local yeasts from the Milton area. Although we’ve moved our operation multiple times, we’ve always kept the original Milton influence in every bottle. Rum takes time and we can’t wait to share this special release with you!
