In 2025 son Domenico was ranked among Australia’s Best Pizzaioli at Australia’s Best Pizza Awards. His acclaimed ‘Sette Bello Organic Fig Pizza’ reflects the families commitment to gardening and family tradition. Together with wife Cecilia Colosimo and their four children in 2016 moved their Institution to Northcote. Bringing their wealth of experience and passion for pizza, coffee, pasta and gelato to the suburb where the family migrated to since 1956. Peter and Cecilia have nearly 40 years of extensive experience in the food industry, opening their very first business called “Tempo Gelateria & Deli” in North Carlton back in 1987. In more recent years the Tempo family were located at ‘Cafe Andiamo’ in Degraves Street, one of Melbourne’s busiest inner city cosmopolitan lane ways and then opened ‘Pizza e Birra’ located in Melbourne’s colourful seaside playground of St. Kilda. Pizza e Birra was ranked 3rd Best Pizzeria in the country and was our home for many years. Following his deep passion for Pizza, Peter and Cecilia travelled back to their hometown in Italia to undertake intense training and become officially certified with the ‘Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana’ (AVPN) and the ‘Babbi Gelato Academy’. In 2016, Peter and Cecilia revived their original business name ‘TEMPO’ and opened their new Artisanal Pizza Restaurant and artisan style Gelato Bar (Pizzeria e Gelateria) at 242 High Street Northcote, where originally Caffe Bedda resided. Like all Italians, the Tempo Family loves to see family, friends and colleagues come together to share great food and wine. The lively and hospitable staff are there to offer a appetising range of woodfired Napoletan style pizza, housemade Gnocchi, Fettucine and oh-so tempting housemade desserts, including Cecilia’s housemade TIRAMISU and GELATO which is made on the premises and displayed in Melbourne’s only “Tonda” rotating gelato display case.

At Tempo it’s all about using fresh, honest ingredients and the art of combining them to create a delightful dining experience. Napoletana Pizza originated in Napoli, Italia and is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients, cooked for no more than 90 seconds in a woodoven at approx. 400 degrees. The secret being the long dough fermentation period giving that moist stretchy chew with plenty of flavour. Both our head Pizzaioli Pietro & Domenico have trained extensively under the International Regulations of the A.V.P.N (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) and have worked in various highly esteemed Napoli Pizzerias. Including Umberto Ristorante 1916, Pizzeria Attilio, Vincenzo Capuano & Casa di Rinaldi. Many ingredients come from our very own garden in Northcote! Nonno Domenico’s pride and joy ‘il Giardino’ grows our ORGANIC Figs, Tomatoes, Passionfruits, Basil, Parsley, Zucchini, Pumpkin, Potatoes, Eggplant, Plumbs, Lemons and Eggs (from Chickens). Fresh fruits and spices are also used for our own housemade Artisan Gelato – You can’t get more local and organic than that! We also offer a selection of gluten free and vegan diet items on the menu. Tempo is the perfect place to host your private function, whether it is a personal celebration or corporate occasion.
