The Workshop

The Workshop The Workshop @ Level 1, 413 Elizabeth Street Melbourne, Australia, 3000
(588)

The Workshop not only boasts one of Melbourne's most intriguing new bar designs, but is also a perfect illustration of Melbourne's thriving underground cultural scene. Developed from the shell of an old motorcycle repair shop, old relics of its past can be found in every corner. Although it has the capacity to rock with hundreds of people, you will still enjoy finding your way through its nooks an

d crannies and staking your claim on one of the many small private spaces within. The Workshop is a visual head on collision of raw industrial materials and Melbourne's cosmopolitan culture. It seems to entwine the rough and unrefined with classic Melbourne chic and style, leaving a venue that can accommodate just about anyone. Featuring a large, second floor, open air decking overlooking the city lights, Workshop is perfect for a summer afternoon or a big night with all your friends.

COMING TO WORKSHOP JUNE 17TH: AMELIA EVANS RADIOHEAD PROJECT

English rock band Radiohead rose to fame in the ‘90s and became one of the most exciting and experimental outfits of their generation. Now a new era of musicians is turning to the group’s iconic back catalogue and finding ways to reinvent the music as their own. Led by jazz vocalist Amelia Evans, Melbourne ensemble The Radiohead Project transforms the music for jazz quartet. Inspired by Radiohead’s radically deconstructed approach to composition and performance, the band explores Radiohead’s affinity for jazz, performing works from well-known records such as OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac. For fans, this promises to be a dreamy, intimate take on imaginative works you have long admired

YO what’s up, I’m Pascal. I’m a local rapper from Melbourne/Naarm of Mauritian/Spanish descent. I’ve been rapping since I was 14, but I am only now starting to release as a solo artist after many years of working on my craft and playing with bands in the neo-soul/hip hop scene. After having lived in Europe for the last few years i’m excited to tap back in to the local scene and begin releasing my singles for my upcoming album. My homie and master selector PJ will be rocking the beats and tunes.

We're so excited to feature live painting by Tallulah Ainsworth from 8pm tonight alongside Tom Eclect's carefully curated lineup of all vinyl selectors x
___

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tallulah's work is an exploration of relationships and human connection through magical realism. The absurdism and beauty of life is reflected in her evocative colour palettes and dreamlike scenes. The animal figures in her work show a rawer and more exposed emotional persona, and their relationships with the people show a dichotomy of the presented self and the internal self. The settings of her work are one of a lucid fantasy, liminal yet alive with vibrancy. The crux of her exploration is what does it mean to be human, emotionally? Ainsworth toes the line of animal, person, and dream in search of the answer.

SOLUNE’s instrumental project, Mad Vantage, presents compositions exploring the sounds of prog-metal fused with nu-jazz: complex rhythmic designs, metric illusions and lush harmonic soundscapes. She has curated a sound which cements her as a powerful force; bursting into the heavy scene unapologetically with the use of synthesizers, distortion and electronic sounds. SOLUNE’s sound is decidedly her own - exploiting odd-meters and double-kick pedals whilst crafting technical grooves that are so unavoidably danceable.

Since joining the professional music scene in 2023, Shahla Paynter (saxophonist/composer/arranger), has explored a number of different genres and musical avenues, playing gigs and recording original music with many emerging Melbourne projects, and performing at popular music venues and bars. With a background in both jazz, classic and groove music, Shahla takes inspiration from these fundamentals, and reworks them into her improvisations and compositions, in a re-contextualised, electronic jazz fusion, modern genre. In recent months, Shahla has been playing both monthly and weekly residencies at the Evelyn, Bar Fiftyfive and Kindred Bandroom, and in 2024, she was lucky enough to venture overseas to Korea, in a collaboration project with Seoul Institute of the Arts where she was able to immerse herself in the tradition of Nongak Korean drumming which she hopes to explore more compositionally in the future.
