ABOUT:
The Port Melbourne Cricket Club (PMCC), founded in 1874, is one of oldest sporting clubs in Australia, and one of the twelve founding clubs of the Melbourne District Cricket competition. The club fields 5 senior teams across a number of grades and 4 Under 12's, an Under 14's and Under 16's junior teams. We also cater for the young ones with a our Milo in 2 Cricket Program (5-8 year olds). H

ISTORY:
Port Melbourne Cricket Club was established in 1874. It was one of the original teams in Melbourne's District Cricket competition comprising of 12 competing clubs; along with Port Melbourne were Carlton, East Melbourne, Essendon, Fitzroy, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, South Melbourne, University and Williamstown. These teams competed in the first District Cricket season. In 1908 it was realised that a system of promotion and relegation was unworkable, and the clubs taking part in District Cricket were divided into District and Sub-District teams - Port Melbourne was one of eight original competing teams in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association (VSDCA), along with Brighton, Caulfield, Coburg, Elsternwick, Hawthorn, Malvern, and Williamstown. In 2002/2003, Port Melbourne joined one the largest metropolitan competitions in the country, the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA). 1st XI glory eluded us despite many grand final appearances, however we collected the silverware in the lower grades on no less that 5 occasions throughout the years in the VTCA. In 2016/17 the South Clubs of the VTCA joined the Cricket Southern Bayside competition, which was run by Cricket Victoria. With many finals appearances throughout these years, the ultimate success of a premiership eluded us at 1st XI Level. Our 2nd XI tasted premiership glory in the White Ball Championship in 2019/20 and our Masters XI have dominated in recent years with back to back premierships in 2019/20 and 2020/21. After a $2.5m redevelopment of the ground in 2018/19 and boasting arguably the best playing surface in Melbourne outside first class cricket grounds, PMCC received appropriate recognition of ‘Ground of the Year’ in season 2020/21. In season 2021/22 we will compete in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association after success campaigning for inclusion in their expansion program, where the association will grow from 28 clubs to 32 clubs. After just on 20 years, we will return ‘home’ to Subbies, and we look forward to what lies ahead as we enter into this journey and the next stage of our famous club.

We are pleased to announce that Bill Sewell was inducted as a Life Member at this evenings AGM.
Achievements
- 93 Games over 2nd, 4th, 5th & Masters
- Dual Premiership Player (Masters)
- Captained 4th & 5th XI at a time in the clubs history whereby playing stocks weren’t great and his Captaincy led to a pathway for our juniors to transition into senior cricket. A legacy we still enjoy today.
- Three time Best Clubman 2019/20, 2021/22 & 2024/25
- 4th XI Batting Award 2018/19
- Committee Member for 9 years

In addition, his tireless work over the past 11 seasons alleviated the work pressure on other committee members in terms of operational duties that needed performing on a daily basis.

In more recent times he oversaw the restoration of valuable club assets (roller & Sooper Soper) providing us with fixed assets amounting in over $85,000 of value to the club.

Congratulations Bill well deserved

Disappointing for our 3rd XI on the weekend going down to Brighton in the Grand Final.
From the ruins comes some positives with Elliott Fitzpatrick doing everything could to get the Borough back into it however, despite a season best 6/36 from 14 overs, we didn’t have enough runs to defend.
Well done to the 3’s on a courageous effort & no doubt they’ll push harder in 2026/27 to bring home a flag 🔴🔵
