Another massive scoring week.
Airport West Legends and The Punters produced what may genuinely be the match of the season, with the Legends somehow scraping home 146-145 in a one-shot heavyweight fight.
The result is enormous for the ladder. Airport West Legends now move to 24 points and outright top spot alongside Leftovers, while The Punters - who entered the week level with them suddenly find themselves sitting on 20 points, now a full win off the pace despite posting a monster 145.
Meanwhile, Weapons of Grass Destruction suffered a devastating case of what medical experts are now describing as “Brother Sickness”, with Thomas Ngo and Jacob Ngo both mysteriously unavailable at the same time. Investigators are still determining whether this was illness, solidarity, or simply a coordinated refusal to leave the house.
The Closest Calls
Airport West Legends survived The Punters 146-145 in an absolute heavyweight fight.
Despite Rod Spicer remaining sidelined following his now infamous pickleball-related Achilles incident, the Legends somehow continue to keep rolling. Rod has now reportedly transitioned into an official off-field role as team cheerleader, morale officer, and unsolicited swing analyst while serving out his stint on the long-term injury list.
Elsewhere, Snow White and 7 Hackers quietly went about business with a classy 144 over Foreign Legion, while Gurus GC kept themselves alive in the finals race by knocking off Mix Grill.
Unknown Team, meanwhile, continue building perhaps the greatest tragic storyline in Team Cup history. Darren Galt punched out another 39, but despite threatening every week, they somehow remain stuck on one lonely win.
Ladder Watch
Leftovers and Airport West Legends now sit tied on top on 24 points, while four teams are packed together just one win behind on 20.
Perhaps the strangest storyline of all: Leftovers - a team reportedly assembled about a week before the season started and viewed by many as complete wildcard material - are somehow sitting outright equal first and quietly looking like they may know exactly what they’re doing.
The Bosh Soldiers also continue to defy logic. Sam Schepis still hasn’t officially played a game, Enshan Hooi has managed just three appearances across eight rounds, and yet somehow they remain firmly in finals contention. Whether this is squad depth, administrative genius, or blind luck remains unclear.
And in the most statistically offensive outcome of all, Weapons of Grass Destruction still own one of the strongest percentages in the competition while sitting outside the top six.

Play well in Round 9.
And please remember: if you are participating in alternate sporting activities during Team Cup season, the committee strongly encourages reviewing the updated Pickleball Risk Management Framework (currently one Post-it note saying “maybe don’t”).
