Shock Value is a high-energy punk and rock-and-roll band based out of Meanjin/Brisbane, Australia, known for their feral, chaotic, and completely unpredictable live performances. Shock Value has earned a cult-like
following across the East Coast of Australia and beyond through sweaty grassroots DIY scenes and energetic shows. Whether they’re tearing through packed hometown gigs, interstate shows or touring Europe they operate less like a standard touring act and more like a livewire experience.

Fueled by the rage of angsty adolescence, Laura and the Hell Cutz are an alt-punk group made up of attitude-driven rock babez from Naarm (Melbourne). Their songs are soaked in 90s inspired grunge riffs and fierce, forthcoming lyrics that tell stories of anger, grief, and exploration of feminine perspectives that challenge traditional notions and expectations of womanhood. They’ve got a lot to say and a way of saying it with their chest.

September 18 Nick Caddaye presents 1996+!

Mr. McClelland’s Finishing School is Melbourne’s longest-running indie pop night, and this September they return to The Retreat with a night of 90s indie good-times.

At its heart, Mr. McClelland’s Finishing School has always been an indie club. Sure, we play pop, rock, soul, funk and whatever else takes our fancy… But our heart lies with indie music, and more specifically, British indie music.

On September 18, we’re celebrating it all; not just the descendants of this musical golden period, but the antecedents too. The stuff that came before and after that came to define an era of British indie rock and pop.

We’re gonna play stuff like Kula Shaker, Lush, The Manic Street Preachers, Suede, Ash, Catatonia, The Lightning Seeds, Ocean Colour Scene, Sleeper, Super Furry Animals… And that’s just some of the bands that released albums in ‘96!

Come join us for a dance and a celebration of the era.
