The Mayor of Missing Gorilla has passed.

We say goodbye to the Mayor of Missing Gorilla — Barry.

Many of you will remember this venue through its many chapters over the years — from Clydesdale, to Volumes Bookstore, Craft Bar, and the original Missing Gorilla founded by the late Darryl alongside his daughter Casey. Today, Anthony and Jason proudly continue as custodians of a place so deeply woven into the community.

This restaurant carries a lot of history, stories, and memories within its walls. In all our years working in hospitality and meeting thousands of people, Barry was truly one of a kind — the sort of person who made this place feel even more special just by being here.

Please don’t hesitate to drop in, share a story, and say hello to Dotty and Baz’s fish — a small but meaningful part of Barry’s contribution to the history and soul of this venue.

We’ve always been an old-school pub at heart. Yummy food, great flavour, reasonable prices, and decent people. A place where everyone is welcome, as long as respect comes with you.

And as Barry would remind us: “Once you cross the bridge, you’re in the country — Melbourne’s on the other side.”
