Some nights the points don’t matter, but the memories always do. 🍻 Our trivia host Amber shares the story of four years of quizzing at the Reefton Hotel, and a little thank you to everyone who’s been along for the ride, read on below 🎉
Trivia, those delightful nuggets of seemingly “useless” knowledge has become a powerful social force every fortnight at the Reefton Hotel.
Like many country pubs, it’s not just a place to wet your whistle, but a place where the community can gather to converse over good food and drink. A place where friendships are made and classic pub events, like trivia, bring laughter and learning as people find fun in remembering and reciting random facts.
The first quiz I held was on the 16 of October 2022 around 5 months after we had moved to McMahons creek. It was a big decision to move to a suburb so far from our family but little did we know how welcomed we would be from the whole 3799 community. So welcomed in fact, that I wanted to give back by creating a fun event that we could all enjoy.
4 years have gone by since the first quiz, and I am humbled every fortnight as I watch the room (or b**r garden) fill with people I have got to know and adore settle in for another shot at the title. The trivia night has been a way families and friends catch up, how birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated. We notice when regulars miss a quiz and we welcome visitors when they come for the first time.
It’s never been a serious quiz but rather a silly one, full of theatrics and catch phrases that have developed organically like a personal joke between besties would.
There will be 3 quizzes in October.
In celebration of enjoying 4 years, the 29th of October will be a costume party! The theme is open so you can dress up as anything you want. You can create a team theme if you like or surprise us all with a costume of your choosing.
Last year we had an amazing mix of costumes from a lobster to Ned Kelly. We had witches and wizards (since it’s close to Halloween) and favourite characters from movies and tv shows. We aim to have it in the b**r garden so more teams can fit but bookings are essential.
I would like to thank Raymond and the amazing staff (a team of incredible local women) for helping me with their quality customer service and for the delicious pub meals and beverages that the teams enjoy while playing along.
And lastly a massive thank you to all who have come and supported this event. It’s been pure joy and my absolute pleasure to be the host of your quiz. One where the points don’t always matter, but the memories always do.
