Three days, three gatherings, a room full of good people, good food, sake and stories. What began as an idea between Kyoto and Lorne became something very real, very special.

At the heart of AURI is a belief in bringing people, places and ideas together, creating space for new connections and experiences that stay with us long after the table has been cleared.

Thank you to the people who made it happen:
To our dear friends from Kyoto’s Berangkat .berangkat Tetsu san, .hama , , .nt1_cl and , for trusting us to bring the Berangkat world to Australia, and a little piece of Kyoto to our coastal town of Lorne.

To the team, Simon, Anna, Rob, Ezzie, Mama Skies, , .yummers and .y , for opening your space to AURI and bringing the pop-up to life with such love and energy.

To for your w**e knowledge throughout.
To of Oborodo Tofu, for the beautiful tofu in our miso soup. To Andrew and Michelle , for the incredible produce woven through the menu. To and for capturing the magic, and for our menu design. To .aus ,sakenet and for sourcing incredible sakes, shochus and awamoris.To , for the soaps and lotions shared with our guests.

Quoted below are the words on the original invite, written long before it came to life (indeed I believe they were still putting finishing touches to the space at 3am on Saturday night, true artists) - I just want to quote this from the invite because the vision is one thing but then bringing it to life is another - and it reflect’s the Community’s creativity, flexibility, strength, determination and resilience, as mentioned - so much admiration ! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

“Our new space at Unit 4/86–88 Murray Street, Colac reflects our Community’s strength, determination, incredible flexibility and patience. Rather than waiting for the “perfect” building, we’re locking in and are working on a bespoke welcoming micro‑environment, a central place to gather, learn and celebrate while construction continues at our Birregurra property to meet National Building Code standards.”

June was a wild month. Health scares (all good now thank gawd) contrasted with a bunch of great events that made the world feel vaguely hopeful. Not least thanks to and for their tireless organising !

Speaking of which , massive reminder to head over to Gulidjan Country , Colac tomorrow for the annual NAIDOC art exhibition and opening of their exciting new space (you know in those shops down in the ten pin bowling alley, it’s down there!) ~ poster split over the last two pics. Hope to see you there , what a way to kick off our break!!! 🌈🌈🌈🌈

Hello dearest customers,

Just heads up that this is our last trading week before a winter break. Also reminder that Saturday, our last night, is also Rach’s LAST LAST (like literal last night) so please come down and say goodbye on Saturday lunch or dinner (also note code word “Rachy’s Margaritas” for $15 margs!) - Rob will be happy to see you at the bar for these 😉

We will reopen Thursday 13 August. However, the week before 6-8 August we have the X Berangkat pop up event (which is sold out), however please stay tuned because on the night of Saturday 8 August we will be holding an afterparty that will be open to the public ! So save the date!

Thank you so much for all the support in our second season, it was a wild one on the home front but thanks to you and our incredible staff the dream lives to see another day.

Also we would like to say a big thanks to the outgoing president for the past 2 years we’ve been here, Jeff Reddie and the outgoing Secretary Marilyn MacKenzie (who has been in the role for !!?? how many years!??….she was definitely the secretary in 2019 -20 when we first here … but how long before that !!??? anyway I’ll get the facts and do a separate celebratory post for Marilyn !) , as well as a big thanks to the outgoing Bowls Club committee overall for being great to work with, we really appreciate you.
