A few moments from our last visit to Brisbane for the QLD Whisky Expo.

From time with the team behind the Queensland Whisky Expo, to sharing our trophy-winning whiskies, to more intimate masterclass sessions - these trips are more than just the event.

Good people, great conversations, and introducing the Fleurieu Peninsula to people who may be discovering it for the first time.

We’re looking forward to doing it all again in Brisbane’s South Bank.

Come join us on May 23 🥃

Quiet for now. There’s a moment each week where the cellar door holds its breath - barrels resting, stills standing silent, trophies catching the last of the afternoon light.

Then the doors open and everything changes.

If you’ve ever wondered where Australian whisky, gin and beer come together under one roof - this is your invitation.

Live a life less ordinary - come see it before the weekend begins… or better yet be part of what it becomes 🙂🥃

Some of you will remember the Barrels of Gratitude. For others, this may be your first introduction.

Wherever you find yourself, this is the story behind these unique barrels — each one named in honour of real people who have shaped our whisky journey.

Back in 2020, we began The Barrels of Gratitude with Seb Costello — founder of Bad Frankie and one of the earliest champions of Australian spirits. Seb was the one who first welcomed Fleurieu to Melbourne, opened doors to its whisky community, and encouraged us to share our story. His belief in local producers has left a lasting mark on the industry and on us.

Fast forward to 2026 — Seb has continued to advocate tirelessly for Australian distillers, bar owners, and the pursuit of excellence in local spirits. Last year we had the real privilege to present him with his bottle in person from the Gratitude cask — a beautifully balanced whisky with a lifted nose and lengthy sweetness.

The remainder of that cask has since been married with barrels from our Matriarch series, forming the foundation for exciting releases still to come. Until then - this vatting has been tagged as “Seb and the Nonnas”

Here’s to Seb 🥃— connector, advocate, and one of the very first to believe in Fleurieu.

If you’ve enjoyed our whisky, you may already have tasted a Barrel of Gratitude — even if you didn’t realise it.

Some of you will remember the Barrels of Gratitude. For others, this may be your first introduction.

Wherever you find yourself, this is the story behind these unique barrels, each one named in honour of real people who have shaped our whisky journey.

Before we get into that…

If you didn’t already know — here at Fleurieu Distillery, we name our barrels.

Famous couples, presidents, even well-known dogs… over the years, many of our barrels have carried names rather than numbers. There are a few reasons for this:

• It’s a huge amount of fun.
• The names often hint at the type or size of the barrel.
• And honestly, it’s much easier to remember a name than a number when pulling samples or rotating casks.

Back in 2020, we introduced The Barrels of Gratitude series. Each barrel was named after someone who had influenced or supported our whisky journey. As those casks reached maturation, the individuals honoured received a 700ml bottle from “their” barrel — a personal thank you from us.

As always, casks mature at different rates and in different ways. Some came of age earlier than others, and wherever possible, those bottles were handed over in person — or sent when distance made that difficult.

Now, in 2026, many of these Gratitude barrels have come into their own. Some have already been bottled, others are just beginning to shine, while a handful still need more time.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing these stories again — this time through the whisky itself — exploring where these casks have travelled and how they’ve shaped the releases you may already have in your glass.

To everyone on our gratitude list — thank you. You’ve become part of Fleurieu’s story, written into every dram. 🥃✨

In 2013, our very first still arrived from Knapp Lewer, and our journey into distilling truly began. When it was installed at the brewery, Gareth had already arranged something quietly unexpected — a name engraved on the manway door.

Like many distilleries, our stills carry names.
Our wash still is called Fountain of Youth.
Our original 1200L copper pot still — our spirit still — is called Whisky Kisses.

The name didn’t come from tradition or folklore. It came from bedtime.

When our sons were small, they struggled to pronounce “whiskery.” The bearded goodnight kisses they received from their father became known, in their words, as “whisky kisses.” The name stuck.

It now lives on in copper — and in one of our early lightly peated releases.

For us, the still does more than refine spirit. It holds memory.
And every time it runs, it carries a little of that story forward.

Our wash still, fondly known as the Fountain of Youth, is where fermentation meets heat.

Its major role is the first distillation: transforming fermented whisky wash into low wines. At this stage, the goal is separation rather than refinement — concentrating alcohol while allowing heavier compounds to fall away.

This initial run sets the foundation for everything that follows, preparing the spirit for its more delicate refinement ahead.
