FREE SCREENING TONIGHT | The Plastic Country 🌏

Kal Glanznig is a former water polo athlete turned ocean advocate who grew up surfing the beaches of Cronulla. Health-conscious and deeply curious, he becomes increasingly concerned by emerging research into the human health impacts of plastic.

Realising that Australia is now one of the world’s largest producers of plastic waste per person, Kal begins to question what this means not just for our environment, but for our bodies.

What follows is a journey across the country, from remote coastlines to wildlife hospitals and Parliament House, uncovering how plastic pollution is infiltrating ecosystems, politics, and human health. The Plastic Country is both a warning and a rallying cry - revealing solutions already underway and showing how everyone can drive the change needed to turn the tide on plastics for good.

Following the screening, stay with us for a panel discussion and mingling from 8pm–9pm, providing an opportunity to hear from passionate advocates, ask questions and explore practical ways we can all help reduce our reliance on plastic.

It's Community Club Awareness Week 2026, a great time to say it plainly: being a member of Currumbin RSL means being part of something bigger.

As a proud social enterprise, every meal shared, every event hosted and every dollar spent in our venues helps create real, lasting impact.

For 75+ years, we've been the heart of the Southern Gold Coast. In the last five years alone, we've donated over $5.4 million to veteran services, education and local community groups.

Here's how that support shows up every day:

Sustainability – Our Seed the Ground program turns food scraps into compost for the Veterans' Backyard, alongside solar energy, improved waste management, recycling initiatives and plastic reduction programs.

Sponsorships – We are long-standing supporters of grassroots sport, including the Currumbin Eagles and Palm Beach Touch Football, providing financial and in-kind assistance to help these clubs thrive.

Community Raffles – Every Friday night, 100% of proceeds go straight to the local group hosting.

Local Artist Feature – We pay local artists to showcase their work on our menu covers, giving them both financial support and valuable exposure. It’s our way of celebrating and promoting the incredible talent in our own community.

Complimentary Room Hire – Safe, professional spaces for eligible local groups and not-for-profits.

Community Grants Program – Up to $100,000 available in 2026, with grants from $1,000 to $10,000. Round 2 applications open until 30 September 2026.

Fun & Ageless – Keeping our 60+ members connected, active and making memories.

When you spend time and dollars with us, you're investing directly back into your own community.

Today, the first day of SWELL Sculpture Festival, we headed down early to check out the finished artwork of "Salt to Salt" by Shelly Kelly and our veteran team.

"Inspired by the Spirit of the ANZACS, a vessel used for veteran burials at sea. The work honours its role in supporting families returning ashes to the ocean.

Extending its ceremonial legacy the installation reinterprets this vessel as a contemporary artwork of service, remembrance, and enduring bonds between people, place, and memory."

Salt to Salt reminds us that the most meaningful works of art are built not only from materials, but from people. Every brick tells a story. Every contribution matters.

If you're in the area, go see it for yourself at Swell Sculpture Festival.
