A huge congratulations to Abhi Sanjeev (Yr11 Fr) and Charlie Keenan (Yr11 FB) who were announced today as the 2027 School Captains.

While 2026 isn't over yet, we want to take this opportunity to thank Austin Olney-Walker (Yr12 FB) and Mimi Bradley (Yr12 Cl) for their steady and supportive leadership this year. We can't wait until you're OGGs!

It's been a huge day at Corio as students from across the three GGS campuses, together with staff and parents, participated in Aths Day. If a cuppa and some couch time are now your priority, settle in for Season 2, Episode 5 of Portrait Artist of the Year at 7.30pm on ABC TV, featuring Kai D'Orsa (A'25)!

PAOTY is a competitive television series where amateur and professional artists race against the clock to paint a well-known public figure. The prize? A commission for the winning artist to have their portrait permanently displayed in the National Portrait Gallery. The sitter also selects their favourite portrait.

Kai travelled to Sydney earlier this year for filming and competed against around 50 artists in the heats. He was later chosen as one of three artists to paint comedian and actor Josh Thomas. The identities of the sitters aren't revealed until they walk on set, but Kai's subject turned out to be exactly the kind of person he was hoping for: someone with "funny hair and cool clothing".

Kai observed that "going in, you don't know who you're going to be painting, so that's obviously a massive pressure on you as well. I was thinking to myself, 'Oh, am I going to create a likeness?' And, you know, I don't reckon I really did, but I did give it a crack".

Describing the experience as "pretty full on", Kai said the friendships he formed with fellow artists and having such an incredible sitter are things he will always look back on with gratitude.

Kai was a recipient of the Russell Drysdale Visual Arts Scholarship while at School and attended the annual OGG Art Exhibition in 2025. The Exhibition showcases work by talented Old Geelong Grammarian artists, with proceeds supporting the Scholarship. This year, Kai will exhibit his own work for the first time.

Only two more sleeps until Aths Day at Corio.

To mark this whole-school event, we're flashing back to 1981, when Perry nudged past Francis Brown House and Barrabool edged out Barwon House, each by just five points, to win the Senior School Boys' and Middle School competitions respectively. Among the Senior School Girls' Houses, Clyde convincingly secured first place ahead of Jennings and a combined Allen/Fraser.

We're looking forward to another exciting day of competition. Will The Hermitage continue its dominance and claim its fourth consecutive Senior School Girls' Athletics title? Will Manifold retain the Senior School Boys' trophy it wrestled back from Cuthbertson House last year? And will Volum once again reign supreme among the Junior School Houses?

Darwin, Brisbane, New South Wales and Tasmania were just some of the locations from which OGGs travelled to be part of the OGG Choral Reunion Gala on Saturday 5 September.

In December 2024, Lisa O'Beirne (Je'89) approached the Alumni Office with an idea to bring OGG choristers together for a performance. Having spoken with Tom Healy (Hon.OGG; former Head of Music), she knew he would be available to participate.

At the same time, the Music Department was already in conversation with Tom regarding the restoration of the Chapel organ and, in early 2025, it was agreed that an OGG performance would be an excellent way to celebrate its completion. The seeds of the OGG Choral Reunion Gala were sown.

Interest from OGGs exceeded all expectations and, ultimately, approximately 60 OGGs from peer years ranging from 1960 to 2025 joined 30 students from the GGS Chamber Choir to form a combined choir.

Beginning on Friday 4 September, current students and OGGs, some of whom had not returned to Corio since leaving in Year 12, gathered in the Music Hall for rehearsals. Archival displays, familiar faces and Tom's trademark vocal warm-ups left many OGGs feeling nostalgic.

Over two days, the OGGs and GGS Chamber Choir rehearsed for more than six hours before culminating in a combined performance in the Chapel of All Saints, conducted by Tom and Holly Sharpe, Head of Music Co-curricular.

The program featured familiar favourites alongside new repertoire performed by the GGS Lyrical Lads and Bluebirds. Following 16 songs and three extraordinary solo performances by Hattie Wade-Holdaway (Yr12 Fr), and opera singers Ali McGregor (Je'90) and Sally Wilson (Cl'92), the evening concluded dramatically with O Fortuna from Carmina Burana.

Following the performance, guests Java Jive'd across to the Music School for light refreshments and the opportunity to reconnect.

The OGG Choral Reunion Gala was a joyous and memorable occasion, celebrating not only music but also its power to bring people together and reminding all present of the enduring connections formed through Geelong Grammar School.

Join retiring OGG Riverina and NE Branch President, Sandy Mackenzie (FB'59) and incoming Branch President, Annabelle McDonald (Finlay, Cl'96), at The Albury Club on Wednesday 7 October for Riverina Spring Drinks.

It was wonderful to be back in Adelaide on Thursday 3 September to celebrate the light blue community.

OGGs from across a range of peer groups, together with past and current parents, joined Principal Rebecca Cody and OGG South Australia (SA) Branch President Brooke Yates (MacLachlan, Cl'86) at Mount Lofty House to hear about significant School and OGG highlights from the year, receive updates on the work of the OGG Committee, and recognise the deep roots of the OGG SA Branch.

Time to warm up those vocal cords! Much like these student choristers from 1999, the OGG Choristers and the Geelong Grammar School Chamber Choir are gathering this afternoon for the first rehearsal of the inaugural OGG Choral Reunion Gala.

Some of the alumni pictured will be dusting off their sheet music and returning to the choir pews, while others will be supporting their fellow choristers from the audience on Saturday evening, enjoying the magic of Tom Healey (Hon.OGG; former Head of Music) conducting.

It's been a few weeks, but we're still talking about the 20 Year Reunion on Saturday 15 August! It was fantastic to see so many from the 2006 peer group reunite and celebrate their lasting connections and friendships.

Old Geelong Grammarians have an opportunity to re-visit Timbertop on the morning of Saturday 19 September 2026.

Given the very nature of the program at Timbertop, the School is unable to welcome visitors during term time, so this is the opportunity for OGGs to visit the campus.
