Some things change. Some things just get better. 🗻❄️
One of our team recently uncovered an April-May 1988 edition of Australian Skiing magazine. And tucked inside? A resort update featuring both Astra and Cloud 9 - long before either became part of Traverse Alpine Group.
At the time, Halley’s Comet chairlift was the new big thing, snowmaking was promoted with hand drawn ads, and Cloud 9 was the brand new 350 seat restaurant at the top of the chairlift, complete with sundecks, food, a bar and, perhaps most excitingly for the journalist, toilets.
And then there’s Astra...the magazine features an artist’s impression of the original Astra Lodge, which opened in 1986. You can see just how much of that original building remains recognisable today.
Fast forward a few decades: Astra was purchased by Rosy Seaton in 2014 and underwent a major renovation across 2015, 2016 & 2017. Traverse Alpine Group has owned Cloud 9 since 2017 and it recently underwent a multi million dollar, three stage redevelopment, officially reopening in June 2025.
Two Falls Creek icons, separated by a few hundred metres and nearly four decades of stories, now under the same TAG family. We think the 1988 version of Falls Creek would be pretty impressed with where things have ended up!
