🏨 The Beatty Hotel, Gresford
The Beatty Hotel at East Gresford has a fascinating history, with the hotel’s story going back to the 1860s and the old Junction Inn.
John Beatty became licensee of the Junction Inn in 1872 and remained associated with the hotel for many years. The original premises were a large timber building that also included a saddlery, pharmacy and joinery.
In 1900, James Boydell decided to build a new two-storey brick hotel beside the old premises. By April 1901, John Beatty had transferred his licence into the new building, which became known as the Victoria Hotel.
The hotel continued under the Victoria name until 1937, when it became the Beatty Hotel.
The present building has now been standing for more than 120 years, making it a pretty special part of East Gresford’s history.
I reckon old country pubs like this are fascinating — they aren’t just buildings, they’re part of the story of the people and communities that grew around them. 🍻
