JUMPINPIN IPA WH**KY — OUR OWN PACIFIC ISLAND GOLD.🏝
Launching tomorrow, Saturday 24 October from midday, as part of our fourth birthday celebrations.
This story started before we’d even opened the doors.
Back in 2021, Kylie met Alex from Milton Distillery through BEDA’s Small Business Accelerator initiative. Two driven, like-minded, blue-sky thinkers. One building a brewery on the world’s second-largest sand island. The other a seriously clever cookie who’d developed a miniaturised continuous-column still.
When we opened the brewery four years ago, we made sure Milton Rum was on our shelves. As their range grew, we welcomed their other spirits, including Vodka and Gin from the A'PEEL range. A friendship that began with big ideas became one we’ve been proud to share over the bar ever since.
Fast forward to 2024, and Andrew and Alex hatched a plan: distil our Jumpinpin IPA, fill ex-bourbon barrel and let the spirit mature above our rooftop bar.
For two years, it rested in salty air and filtered sunlight, listening to locals’ stories and plenty of laughter. Subtropical Straddie. Our Pacific island. A pretty special place to become a wh**ky.
And there’s a little island legend in the bottle, too.
Our Jumpinpin IPA was inspired by the 1894 wreck of the Cambus Wallace off Straddie (Minjerribah), its cargo of gold, wh**ky and dynamite, and the explosive aftermath that helped shape the Jumpinpin story.
Now, distilled at Milton and brought to strength with sand-filtered Straddie island water, that b**r brings the legend full circle.
Tasting Notes: Peach, vanilla and butterscotch lead to sultanas, cranberry and tropical fruit, finishing with pandan and nutmeg. Tropical complexity!
