‘In my collection of old boards that have come back to me, there’s always been 1 missing that I really wanted to complete the picture.
A Single Fin from Saltwater Surfboards in Whangamata, NZ, where I was first taught to shape under the guidance of Master craftsman Bob Davie.
In a conversation one day with Pete Mitchell who owns Saltwater Surfboards, I said if ever one of my old Single Fins turned up, could he please grab it for me. His reply was “Actually we’ve got one here that came in & we’ve got it at the factory to be restored because we think it’s one you shaped for yourself”. After a bit of hassling & negotiating I convinced Pete to part with it & here it is in my collection. It’s a 6’4 Pintail with curved channels that I shaped for myself in 1981. We’re going to give it a bit of love & bring it back to a respectable state.’
