🏠 WANT TO MAKE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE?
Calling all creative makers – individuals, families, schools, community groups and workplaces!
We’re looking for imaginative gingerbread houses to feature in this year’s hunt. And there’s a twist – your house doesn’t need to be made from gingerbread!
Get creative with cardboard, recycled materials, fabric, clay, craft supplies, natural materials or something completely unexpected. Your finished creation will be matched with a participating Devonport business and proudly displayed in their shop window throughout the hunt.
Your creation should:
β€’ Be between 30cm and 100cm wide
β€’ Be made from durable, non-edible materials
β€’ Be safe and suitable for public display
β€’ Have all decorations securely attached
There are prizes up for grabs for our makers too, so let your imagination run wild!
πŸ“§ To register as a maker, email [email protected]
Completed houses must be delivered to Devonport City Council no later than Monday 23 November 2026

🌟 DO YOU KNOW A LOCAL LEGEND?

We all know someone who goes above and beyond for our community. πŸ’š

Maybe it’s the volunteer who always lends a hand, the young person making a difference, or the person who quietly gives their time to help others.

Now’s your chance to help recognise them!

πŸ† Nominate someone for a Devonport Australia Day Award and celebrate the people who make our community a better place.

There are three award categories:
πŸ‘ Citizen of the Year
🌱 Young Citizen of the Year
πŸŽ‰ Community Event of the Year

If someone comes to mind, why not give them the recognition they deserve?

πŸ”— Find the nomination form on the Devonport City Council website: https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/live/your-community/awards/australia-day-awards/

πŸ“… Nominations close 9 am, Monday 9 November 2026 (Deadline extended).

Let’s celebrate our local legends! πŸ’š

πŸŽ„ Help Devonport fill 500 Bags of Hope this Christmas! πŸŽ„

This Christmas, the Salvation Army Devonport is aiming to create 500 Bags of Hope with our community to help local individuals and families who could use a little extra support over the festive season. πŸ’›

And our community can help make it happen!

πŸ›οΈ Fill a bag, collect a few items, or get together with others to donate. Every contribution counts, whether you can fill an entire bag or simply add a few Christmas essentials to the collection.

🎁 Items could include:
β€’ Gravy, tinned vegetables, meat or fish
β€’ Fruit salad, dried fruit and snacks
β€’ Long-life milk, custard or cream
β€’ Tea, coffee, Milo, sugar or cordial
β€’ Jelly, mince pies, Christmas pudding or shortbread
β€’ A few festive extras to make Christmas special

πŸ’‘ A couple of handy hints: Ring-pull tins are preferred, as not everyone has a can opener, and items with long expiry dates are greatly appreciated. Gluten-free and vegetarian alternatives are also welcome.

❀️ Where can you get involved?
Empty red Bags of Hope are now available from the paranple arts centre - Visitor Services. You don't need an official red bag, though β€” you can collect items in any bag or box, and you don't need to fill a whole bag to make a difference.

πŸ“ Current collection and drop-off locations:
πŸŽ„ Complete Stationery – Devonport
πŸŽ„ Devonport Salvation Army Store and Office
πŸŽ„ Leaping Goat Coffee Quioba
πŸŽ„ Little Goat Coffee – Stewart Street
πŸŽ„ paranaple arts centre

πŸ“¦ Donations need to be returned during the first week of December so the Salvation Army and local volunteers have time to sort and distribute the bags before Christmas.

🏒 Can your workplace, business or community group help? The Salvation Army would love to hear from organisations interested in becoming a donation drop-off point. They're particularly keen to hear from businesses that may be able to provide temporary storage space for the project. Please contact Devonport Salvation Army if you'd like to get involved.

Let's come together to help reach 500 Bags of Hope and bring a little extra Christmas cheer to local homes. Every bag, every item and every act of kindness counts! πŸ’›
