Mok Isan ≠ Hor Mok
Mok Isan represents the kind of Thai food we want to bring to Yum Club, dishes rooted in regional traditions, full of character, and often overlooked outside Thailand. It’s a reminder that Thai cuisine is much more than the familiar curries and pad Thai
Mok is a style of cooking where ingredients are mixed with herbs, aromatics and seasoning, then (originally) wrapped in banana leaves and steamed or grilled until everything comes together in one fragrant little parcel. Depending on the recipe, it can be made with fish, meat, offal or even vegetables.
What makes it special is its simplicity. There’s no need for fancy techniques or elaborate presentation. The magic comes from fresh herbs, the aroma of banana leaves and the balance of bold, earthy flavours that make Isan food so distinctive.
We’re proud to give this humble, comforting dish a place on our menu and let it tell a little story about where we come from.
