Yesterday, members of the Veterans MC FNQ Chapter were honoured to attend the Vietnam Veterans’ Day Commemorative Service at the Cairns Esplanade Cenotaph.

Vietnam Veterans’ Day is observed each year on 18 August, the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. This year marked the 60th anniversary of that significant battle in 1966.

We gathered alongside veterans, their families and members of the Cairns community to honour all Australians who served during the Vietnam War. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who returned home wounded or forever changed by their service, and the families who carried the burden alongside them.

Following the service, our members attended the Cairns RSL Sub Branch Vietnam Veterans’ Day Commemorative Mess Dinner at Edge Hill Cairns Bowls Club. It was a fitting opportunity for veterans, families and friends to come together in remembrance, camaraderie and mateship.

Our sincere thanks to the Cairns RSL Sub Branch and everyone involved in organising the commemorative service and dinner.

To our Vietnam veterans: thank you for your courage, sacrifice and service to our country.

On Sunday, members of the Veterans MC FNQ Chapter were honoured to attend a commemorative service on Sims Esplanade at Yorkeys K**b, marking the 84th anniversary of a tragic Second World War aviation accident.

On 16 August 1942, a United States Army Air Forces B-17 Flying Fortress crashed into the sea off Yorkeys K**b during a training operation. All 12 American servicemen aboard tragically lost their lives.

Eighty-four years later, we gathered with members of the local community to remember these men and pay tribute to their service and sacrifice.

Although they served far from home, their courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

We will remember them.

On Saturday, members of the Veterans MC FNQ Chapter had the privilege of attending the Victory in the Pacific Day commemorations at Rocky Creek War Memorial Park on the Atherton Tablelands.

This year marked the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Pacific and the end of the Second World War. We gathered to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of all who served—especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who returned forever changed, and the families who supported them.

Rocky Creek holds an important place in our military history, having been the site of the largest military hospital complex in the Southern Hemisphere during the Second World War.

It was an honour to stand alongside veterans, families and members of the wider community in remembrance.

We will remember them.

Veterans MC Far North Queensland Chapter was proud to attend the Legacy Legends Charity Ride yesterday, hosted by the Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club in support of FNQ Legacy.

Despite the wet weather, the rain certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Riders from several motorcycle clubs, independent riders, veterans, and members of the wider community all came together with one common goal – supporting our local veterans’ families and strengthening the bonds that unite the motorcycle community.

The ride started and finished at the Gordonvale RSL Sub-Branch. While the original route was planned to continue through to Bramston Beach, the decision was made to shorten the ride due to the weather, with rider safety taking priority. Instead, we enjoyed a lunch stop at the Aloomba Hotel before returning to the RSL, where everyone gathered for raffles, great prizes, and plenty of laughs.

A huge thank you goes to the event organisers, volunteers, Gordonvale RSL, the many generous sponsors, and everyone who donated prizes and supported the day. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the motorcycle community and the public, more than $2,500 was raised, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Far North Queensland Legacy, helping support the families of veterans who have served our country. Legacy continues the promise of caring for the partners and children of deceased or incapacitated veterans, ensuring they are never left to face life’s challenges alone.

Events like this remind us that being part of the motorcycle community is about far more than riding. It’s about mateship, brotherhood, camaraderie, respect, and giving back. It’s about standing shoulder to shoulder, supporting one another, and supporting those in our communities who need it most.

Rain or shine, the motorcycle community always turns up. Yesterday was another great example that no amount of bad weather can wash away the spirit of the riding community. The morale remained high, the smiles never disappeared, and the friendships between clubs continue to grow stronger with every event.

To everyone who rode, volunteered, donated, or simply came along to support the cause—thank you. We look forward to seeing you all again at the next ride.

Today, the Veterans Motorcycle Club – FNQ Chapter was honoured to attend the grave dedication for First World War veteran Private James Cartwright at Mareeba Pioneer Cemetery.

After approximately 75 years in an unmarked grave, his service and sacrifice have finally been recognised.

Riders from USCQ and the broader riding community came together in mateship, respect and remembrance.

Today, members of the Veterans Motorcycle Club – FNQ Chapter were deeply honoured to attend the grave dedication and unveiling for First World War veteran Private James Cartwright, service number 2774, of the 47th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, at Mareeba Pioneer Cemetery.

Private Cartwright served on the Western Front and was wounded several times during his service. After returning home, he later settled in Mareeba. On Anzac Day, 25 April 1951, he collapsed while marching alongside his fellow veterans and passed away as the Last Post was being played.

For approximately 75 years, Private Cartwright rested in an unmarked grave. Today, his service, sacrifice and final resting place were formally recognised with the dignity and respect he deserved.

The service was also a powerful demonstration of the mateship and camaraderie within the motorcycle community. Riders from USCQ and the broader riding community came together in unity to honour a veteran, support one another and ensure that the service and sacrifice of those who came before us are never forgotten.

It was a privilege to stand alongside fellow veterans, riders, families and members of the Mareeba community to pay our respects.

Rest easy, Private James Cartwright. Your service is remembered, your resting place is now marked, and your legacy will endure.

Yesterday, members of Vietnam Veterans & Veterans MC FNQ Chapter had the honour of attending the Avenue of Honour service in Yungaburra, proudly organised by the Patriots MMC.

It was a privilege to stand alongside fellow veterans, riders, families and members of the community to pay our respects to those who have served and sacrificed for our nation. Events like these are an important reminder that the legacy of our servicemen and women lives on through remembrance, mateship and community.

A sincere thank you to the Patriots MMC for organising such a respectful and well-run event. Your hard work and dedication ensured a fitting tribute to our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, members of the Veterans Motorcycle Club attended the 84th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of the Coral Sea in Cardwell.

It was a well-run and respectful service at the Coral Sea Memorial Park, with a solid turnout from the local community.

The march and ceremony was a testament to those near and far who support the morning, and it was good to see people taking the time to remember those who served and the sacrifices made during the Battle of the Coral Sea.

These events matter — they keep the history alive and make sure it’s not forgotten.

Thanks to the organisers and everyone involved in putting the day together.
