Today is an extra special day – want to know why?

Every donation to the CMRI Mudgee Jeans for Genes Australia fundraising page will be DOUBLED, meaning you can double your generosity and double your impact to help the Mudgee kids who depend on the work that the Children's Medical Research Institute does every single day.

Finding new cures and treatments is absolutely essential, especially because genetic diseases and birth defects are more common than you’d think. 1 in 20 is basically one in every classroom!

Here are 3 ways you can help support this important cause:

#1. Wear jeans tomorrow (Friday August 5th)!

#2. Make a donation online: https://fundraise.jeansforgenes.org.au/fundraisers/CMRIMudgeeCommittee

#3 Pop down to Blooms the Chemist Mudgee on Friday August 5th between 8am and 1pm to buy Jeans for Genes merch, baked goods and/or a ticket to their 200 Club.

Thank you!

We're rocking our jeans this year for Jeans for Genes! We’ll be hosting an event to raise funds to help cure childhood genetic diseases. 1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or generic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That’s 12 kids born every minute ...

This Sunday, 31st July, we will close the doors on our winery cafe at the Huntington Garden Bar serving food that loves wine. It felt like we were just getting started, that we were building something beautiful, and we’re all really disappointed.

Our lovely chef Scott has decided to move on. We respect his choice, and wish him all the best in his future - with more flexibility and more footy in it, and an exciting fresh start to come.

We can’t replace him. The media is full of reports on the crippling shortage of labour in Australia at the moment across all sectors. Every second Facebook post is either hiring or imploring people to be civilised to staff under pressure; Mudgee businesses are competing fiercely to recruit and retain chefs, catering and other hospitality staff.

We are working on alternatives, but have nothing to announce at this point.

Food is not our core business, so we get to make the choice to pause without too many consequences - just time, effort and money spent, and some fancy kitchen and serving equipment to show for it. But we had so much fun, and we’ll be fine.

Save any sympathy you might have for the people whose livelihoods depend on food service, and most of all - please be kind to the wait staff, chefs, managers and owners who are doing their best in very difficult circumstances.

Cheers, and thank you to all who came out to support us and enjoy our lovely food.

We’ll be back!

Introducing our amazing Chef, Scott Payne. He’s been with us since the beginning, and we are so happy to be on this journey with him. We are really proud of his wonderful menu and food, but also his decency, calm and thoughtfulness - which is such an asset in a partnership, and in the crucial area of recruitment and retention of quality staff.

A Mudgee boy, Scott joined the navy as a chef straight after school, received fantastic training, and honed his craft at sea for 8 years. In addition to being highly skilled, experienced and passionate about his craft, Scott’s organisation, collaboration and team spirit are pretty unusual in a chef, and a credit to this background in the armed forces.

He returned to Mudgee and enjoyed a change of scale and pace as chef in the only fine-dining restaurant at the time, White Monkey. When White Monkey closed, he worked in a variety of a Mudgee’s kitchens until Steve Bowlay recruited him as his 2IC for the wildly successful 53 Food Co which is how we all met.

Cheers Scotty, can’t wait to grow this business together and to keep enjoying your delicious food.

What a perfect day for lunch at the Garden Bar.

Chef Scott has added a roast vegetable frittata to the menu which is to DIE for.

The petit pots of pommes dauphinoise were amazing with the spiced slow cooked lamb too.

Open Saturday and Sunday for delicious food and wine 😊 in a beautiful garden setting.

Cheers 🥂

Just wow. We are delighted and humbled to have been recognised as Star Cellar Door for Mudgee this year.

Thanks and all credit to our extraordinary team who designed and built, and maintain and host customers in our beautiful cellar door and restaurant spaces. We kept all our staff through both lockdowns, and despite the loss of the 2020 vintage. We redeployed the team to renovate, restore and create new spaces for us to share our wine and food, and the result is this award today.

Behind the scenes, our production team are such a versatile and talented bunch. Led by Scott our Operations Manager with Dana our Warehouse Manager (and her predecessor Geoff), Paul and Ben from the vineyard team were our builders, plumbers, carpenters, welders, gardeners and more who have worked with such creativity and skill to renovate and construct the beautiful spaces at the cellar door.

Front of house are our magnificent cellar door and bar specialists, chef and marketing team led by Maddi. Simply the best team we could hope for - most of whom have been with us for years including Helen, Jaime, Claire, Steph, Janet, Jen, Cass, Nataliia, Scott P and others. So welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable - many of who have proven to be pretty handy with sandpaper, paint, varnish and power tools themselves!!

Big cheers to the lot of you, and congratulations to the other winners in Mudgee this year
