FRONT 2 BACK x TRIP HOP TRANSMISSION
This Wednesday 27th of May, FRONT 2 BACK dives deep into two shadowy, cinematic and endlessly influential records. Portishead and Massive Attack blurred the lines between hip hop, dub, soul and electronica to create the sound of the after hours.
PORTISHEAD - ‘Dummy’
A haunting masterpiece of smoky beats, crackled samples and Beth Gibbons’ aching vocals. ‘Dummy’ moves between intimacy and paranoia with effortless cool, capturing the feeling of a city at 2am. Melancholic, seductive and impossible to replicate, it remains one of the defining albums of the 90s.
MASSIVE ATTACK - ‘Blue Lines’
The blueprint for trip hop. Soulful, spacious and deeply groove driven, ‘Blue Lines’ fused hip hop rhythms with reggae, funk and atmospheric production to create something entirely new. A record that feels both laidback and revolutionary and still sounds decades ahead of its time.
Two albums that transformed underground music into cultural canon. Played front to back on the Stan’s system.
$10 snacks and specially curated cocktails from 5pm ‘til late.
