An early Running of the Sheep in Boorowa?

No, it’s not .irish.woolfest yet … but it is coming soon (October long weekend)…

Rather, it is just Merryville’s own Wal Merriman driving by the wine bar / Bookstore to remind himself to get in early for some of the books that will be talked about at the Fourth Annual Boorowa Literary Festival next week! (Sold out, yay!)

Including The Peak by who, in a former life once drove down the Main Street in Wally’s Ute….

Now that’s a great Aussie mystery right there…

When you catch the Star Ferry to TST (lower deck) and see ‘s Peak in beautiful sunshine, and wander over to the and they happen to have an east-west exchange exhibition showing on garden design and you see both a Tingqua and a couple of Monets, and you find yourself at a twilight meeting at Happy Valley before ending up at a jazz bar near the old Barracks researching a Cote de Rhône you know you’ve had a day of it in Hong Kong!

Love Hong Kong!

Every desert town needs water… Dunhuang has springs and the Dang River.

Its Silk Road history is built on harnessing those water sources.

The modern city has turned its river banks into a place of recreation, community gathering, sport (9pm table tennis anyone?) and beauty.

Well worth traveling deep into China’s north-west, if not for the donkey meat, then at least the desert sands at one end and the river running through it.

Spanning thousands of years, the Mogao Caves complex houses cells and caves built into the rock faces, with amazing Buddhist wall art inside. (No photos allowed inside, so only an external mural shown here).

This amazing Silk Road site is well worth traveling into the desert to see!

Dunhuang desert shots on their way, for now a final misty look at Pudong and the Bund.

Various boat tour options - dinner, no dinner, one bridge or two - and I know which option I think is best for a group.

Shanghai random moments: cool coffee shops in slow streets, lilong/ alleyway housing still around in ever decreasing numbers and a few old buildings revealing yesteryear charm… and a yesteryear charm antique shop that I could’ve stayed in for hours, with old maps and even receipt books from the 1930s…

Only by immersing and getting away from a bus tour can one really see some of China’s hidden delights!

Sometimes organised art spaces - as opposed to locations which grow organically - can be a bit hit and miss.

In my opinion, this was a hit.

Very cool street art versions of Monkey with a spray can, and all with the One Thousand tree building towering in the background.

Shanghai, both stylish and funky!

Atmospheric night cruise in the rain.

The classics along the Bund, as well as some of the buildings from the Shanghai Expo including the Arena/Entertainment Centre.

Plus the PowerStation Art Centre.

Always enjoyable gliding along the Huangpu at night.

A lovely wander through the stately Yu Gardens, looking all lush and abundant.

People often do not realise the craft and skill on display in a classic Chinese garden, especially those of the late Ming.
