Do you know where The Lucky Country Wines gets its name?

For many Australians the phrase 'the lucky country' has a particular resonance. Donald Horne's famous words, which were a critique on Australia when first penned, have since been used in numerous ways to describe everything that is great about our nation.

The phrase has been used to describe our weather, our lifestyle and our history. It is often invoked to describe the nation's good fortune, from gold booms to economic booms. Recently, our geographic isolation from the world's trouble spots has again seen us labelled the lucky country.

2010 The Lucky Country Shiraz - 87 points
The wine is a deep purple color. The very Australian nose features blackberries, blueberries, black pepper, vanilla, baking spices and wild flowers. This has a medium body with soft, ripe tannins and decent acidity. On the palate the big fruit and peppery spice carries the load with a touch of chocolate and earthiness in the background. The finish has decent length with sweet berries and spice. This seems to carry a touch of residual sugar but not enough to really stick out. This would be a nice holiday party wine. (87 pts)
